I am starting to hate these things. When I do a repair and see one of these things... I get a sick feeling. What do you guys use? Just use 4 elbows? I am beginning to like compression couplings... had to use one a galvanized pipe for my POC, and it worked well.

Are you talking about "slip" fixes? They are fine if done PROPERLY.

As Dana said, slipfixes work great in the right setting. Compression is no more than a temporary fix at best. Using it as you mention is definitely better than trying to twist out an old galv fitting, but still not a godd long-term answer.
Then of course, you do what works best.

i still like using a regular coupling and a bell end piece of pipe... i use it 90% of the time, unless conditions make it difficult to perform, or no bell pipe on board... then its 4 90's for me...
