Yeah, get a pigtail for it. We do it all the time as needed. Just make sure to install bushings on the opening so you can prevent moisture from entering the small connection box.

Ive done plenty drilling a hole thru the clock and running a pigtail thru the basement. If poer is more then 9' away I will remove the transformer and run and interior transformer.

Why do that?

Why do that?

Because it's not always that easy to get an electrician to hard wire it. Of the systems I work on, probably 5% or less have outside controllers. Probably 2-3%. and of those probably another 5% are hard wired. It's just not done here that often.

We mount outdoor and hardwire whenever possible, whether an electrician is available or not. Probably 95% of the time.

Just finished a commercial install with a submersible pump, pump start relay, magnetic starter, and Pro-C outdoor, all hard-wired by us. Project electrician looked at it to be sure it would pass inspection, and said he wouldn't have done it any differently, probably would have been sloppier than what we did.

Yes, it wasn't exactly legal to do it like that, but I've had so many clocks, relays, and pumps smoked by electricians that I decided we'd just do it ourselves, then have them look it over.
