Hey guys! Well today I rented a tractor with a harley rake behind it to get my yard all straigtened out. Now i am working on raking it out some by hand and getting rocks and some grass out.

Tomorrow i will be using this brillion seeder and i wondered if anyone had any tips? I dont have the model number on me right now. Is it necessary to make more than one pass? Or to cross in a different direction?

Also I have part of my yard that is pretty shady and the nutrients get sucked out pretty good by a couple big maples. Any brand of shade sheed you guys recommend? Or seed in general.

Located in northern indiana

Thanks!:cool2:

wheres all the pros at ? :)

Also, after i seed what is best way to cover it up? Should i put some straw on it? I dont have access to a blower today but i could probably rent one tomorrow. I also see at Menards they have some bags of what looks like shredded up paper that could be used. Its a lil more expensive.. any thoughts on that? Thanks

I'm not a pro, but used a harley rake and brillion seeder last fall with what i thought were very good results.

I cut the seed deposit in half and ran in two directions. First, make a pass back and forth across your area, then make a second pass as a 45 degree angle to your first pass. 2 passes at 1/2 rate.

My thoughts on the straw (or cover) is that it's not necessary if you keep it watered. Straw would help on any slopes controlling washouts, and would help keep the ground moist, but if your watering correctly you don't need it. And sounds like you have plenty of shade.
