One of my guys put strait gas in our Makita concrete saw and to no avail it stopped running. The unit now has a loss of compression.
Is there a do it yourself fix for this? and if so where might I get the parts?
The makita repair shop wanted a few hundred bucks to repair it, so I thought if its a matter of buying a rebuild kit or something that I can get the parts for, I'd just work on it myself this fall.
One of my guys did that a couple of years ago with my Echo blower. The piston was seized. I was able to knock the piston loose and put generous amounts of WD-40 in the cylinder. Then, after I was able to start it (difficult because of all that gas and oil in the cylinder) it ran for a couple of years.
Perhaps that would work for you. Of course if you are certain of a loss of compression, a rebuild would be necessary.

Where did you get the saw? Home Depot Tool Rental sales these types of saws and you may be able to order the repair kit through them (rental).
You will need the piston cylinder kit, which comes with the new cylinder, piston, gasket for the jug (cylinder) and wrist pin ring.
These cylinders are chemically coated, and once they are damaged (scoring and or galling), they will fail again under heat and load. The kit will cost around $ 165.00 bucks. Because of the design, you will need an extended Torx 27 socket to torque down the cylinder head bolts. Also, just take good pictures of the disassembly process if you are not sure. Pay attention to the alignment arrow on the piston head and be careful when inserting the piston into the new cylinder as the piston has a pin to keep the ring from rotating. A ring compression tool would be nice. Good luck.:)
