My Everride calls for 20w-50 conventional oil. Thinking of running 15w-50 Mobil 1 instead. I believe Exmark runs this grade.

Thoughts on the switch? Both should be the same at operating temp. I'm thinking the 5W diff. won't matter as much since I'm going from conventional to synth. Exmark and Everride like most uses Hydro-gear pumps and Parker wheel motors.

Thanks

I've topped my hydro gear pumps with 15 -50 mobil 1 , no problems so far, should be better on startup on cold mornings.

Some machines call for it out of the box. As long as the viscocity is the same you'll be fine.

That's what I'm asking. Mine calls for 20w50 conventional. I'd like to use Mobil 1 15w50. I can get it at Walmart and it's cheap. $23 for 5qts vs the hard to find Mobil 1 20w50 at $10 per qt.

Most recommend Mobil-1 15w50 as the "alternative" to dino 20w50. (unless it is specifically labeled otherwise)

My Walker dealer stressed to get the extended preformance Mobil-1 (with the gold cap). It's the most expensive, but considering the cost of hydro pumps and motors there's no reason to skimp here!

I'm going to go with the 15w-50 Mobil 1. Other Everride mowers that don't have pump fans or a radiator tank call for Synth 15w-50 OR 5w-50 so I should be fine. My Hornet has the fans and the alum. heatsink tank which is why they claim synthetic isn't nessicary.

I can get Mobil 1 20W-50 but its the "motorcycle" formula which means they nail you for $40 per Gal. I can get Mobil 1 15w-50 for only $23 per Gal. Conv. is even cheaper at $12 per Gal.

I use 15W50 in my EverRide, Mobil1. No problems for 5 years now. I also use it in the engine with a 19 micron Wix filter.

The Mobil 1 will be fine and better for your machine. Our Hustlers recommend the same 20w-50 but I tell my Customers to use Mobil 1 15w-50. No problems and there won't be any.

You are talking about $100 in oil vs. $1000s in hydro system repairs.....:dizzy:

Buy the right viscosity oil and don't look back. If you can, go with the 20w50 12TBN fully synthetic Amsoil diesel oil for your hydros.

Like I said, I also use it in the engine. Being synthetic it flows great at lower temps and with the engine being air cooled (which tends to run hotter than water cooled), I think it's great for spring/summer/fall use. Hell, I even use it in winter. Plus, it's far better to conventional oil in reducing wear.
