Got a call from one of my megas (90 zoner) concerning high limit, replaced
solenoid, then got low limit, ganged the valve next door which was the same
turf-type and nozzle, worked fine for a few weeks, then got high limit, high
enough to indicate a fried solenoid. Went down today, replaced the solenoid
and got low limit on the two ganged valves. Ohmed out both solenoids, fine.
Ran 24 volts from clock, nada: .23 volts on both wires. No work has been
done on the site to create nicks, but sure seems like something's going to
earth. Will take this little dear down tomorrow.

Where's your AC ammeter?

Where's your AC ammeter?

Lay it on me, what would it do for me that my Fluke & other testers don't do?
I assume you're talking about a clamp-on, never had to use one, until now.

I don't know what modern clamparound meters will show on solenoid currents. It was a rare analog clamparound that could accurately measure below one amp. (which is why it may come down to a series-connected AC ammeter)

So, do you think I have a multiple nick?

The clamp meters you use for two wire read well below 1 amp.

Meaning what?

I was just replying back to boots that they have clamp meters now that can read down into the milliamp range which would allow you to read the amp range at the solenoid.

Sorry, I get it now. My Checker showed "AC signal is present, but unusable"
when I checked the wires with the solenoids removed from the wire path,
So I'll start to look for a bad splice. It's not the common, because other valves
on this run are going fine.

Found the bad splices! :::Note to self and anyone else: when making splices
that are permanent, use DBYs, not King 'blues".::::::hammerhead:

Hangin. Ready to share a keg. Last fill of 5 mil gal for the year on the pond with the awesome pump sys. Sitting at lunch with a brew now. Nothing better. Emails out the wazoo.
