04 F250 Buidling sides on the bed

Getting ready for leaves in a month or so and im just starting to plan out building some side walls for the bed of my truck. I know what im going to use for the actually wall but what size lumber does everyone stick down inside the bed of the truck??? Looks like i'll have to rip a 2x4 in half to get it to fit down that hole. any suggestions???

I used 1/8 x 1 x 1 square steel welded togeather for my box frame and bolted the sides to the head board section, 1/4" plywood screwed to the outside of the frame. The frame was bolted to the side rails of my pickup. I could put it on and off the truck by myself in sections.

Wood does not work very well in stake pockets.
