Thanks LONESTAR... When people charge $45 per yard that is the labor charge to put down the mulch right?? Is that a reasonable price?

Im not sure that is just the labor charge or not. Depends on the company. So I can not answer if that is reasonable or not.

That's a reasonable price in Texas for labor ,I have included the mulch and made a little less than that to get the job ,just worked a little slower ,comprende?

Working slower does not compensate for underestimating. In fact in is eating into your profits more.

We charge $25 per cubic yard to install (all labor). That does not include any bed prep or anything else.

When it comes down to getting the work or sitting at the house ,I would rather work a little cheaper and make a little something as opposed to nothing ,It's a free country ,charge whatever suits you! There is no snow to plow around here in the winter and this is a small town so it gets slow ,and I do mean Slow and I still got to eat and pay bills :)I have never gouged a client yet and me and my helper don't drag our feet ,Don't try to tell me you work at the same speed all the time ,what are you a robot! I been to san antonio and when it's july and 105 degrees at 80% relative humidity you are moving slow and don't even try to say your not !:D ;)

nice Mulch Calculator ...about 14 bags mulch to 1 yard ... we charge $1.75 per bag to install .... prep is extra

we like bag mulch .... easier to spread (compared to wheel barrel n pitch fork) store & transport

that's right ,2 cubic feet per bag at wally world 14 bags is just slightly over 1 cubic yard ,and Ilike it in the bag too! :D

I don't disagree with you there big james if you lack work, but why work slower once you get the job? Unless you are charging per hour (which you did not mention)

If you get a job and estimated lower to get the job because you need the work that is fine but once you get it, (if you are not charging by the hour) then finish it at normal speed to assure quality and then have time to look for more work.

If I work slow it is not my intention, but living in SA my whole life 105 doesn't effect us. Your slow comment gave me the impression that you intentionaly worked slower.

105 degrees don't affect you ,damn your one tough mother ,It affects me and I have lived here all my life and Dallas.and since when does speed at which you work improve the quality?going to fast can bring the quality down right ? I'M 38 years old ,you must be about ten years younger than me ,105 didn't bother me as much then either

I think you misread my posts.

I said work normal speed (I did not say work fast). You implied (atleast to me) that you underestimated a job (to get the job which is fine) and to compensate that you work slower.

My age is in my profile if you need to know.

No I think you are reading something in to mine that is really not there ,I don't rip off people ,if I bid a job by the hour and I bid it for less than I would prefer to make in order to get thework ,then if I want to work a little slower to make up for it then I come out the same and the client is none the wiser and none the worse for wear ,is this trickery ,yea probably but I still know in my heart of hearts that I didn't rip them off and they know it too! most have called several others and got bids by the time I get there anyway . And as far as your age goes I am not really interested ,in fact I couldn't care less how old you are ,I bet my guess was pretty accurate . ******************

Big James: This the second post I've read of yours in 15 minutes that had a personal attack in it.
Re-read the posting guidelines. You are not to make any personal attacks on anyone. I don't care if you disagree with me, Lonestar or anyone else for that matter. But leave the personal attacks out of it. State your case and move on.

Again working slower does not compensate for lower bids.....You must be bidding per hour rates

I can't understand working slower for any reason (except maybe with my girlfriend) .... ;->

that's why we like to figure labor cost based on # versa by the hour .... if we only want to make $1.75 than be lay 1 bag an hour ..... but if we lay 14 bags in 1/2 hour than I made $25 for that 1/2 hour

Olabob,

I just bid out a job last week for this Spring. I charged $95 per cubic yard, delivered and installed.

This potential client did not seem to have a problem with the price. He stated I am in line with everyone else in this area.

I am going to reply one last time and this is it.

Then you will e-mail me and question me about anything you want. I am not going to continue to ruin perfectly good threads because you want to fight on them.

On the thread you are asking me about, Luke gave his opinion (whether right or wrong) about paying cash. You started first by saying it was chicken **** thing to post.

NO MORE FIGHTING ON ANY OF THESE THREADS NOW.

E-mail instead to get it off your chest.
