I have operated Toros for years and I am considering purchasing a Hustler Z or Super Z to add to my lineup. My dealer tells me that the Hustler Z is their bread and butter machine, and that they sell more of them than the Super Z. However, on here it seems that everyone has Super Zs. You don't see much at all written about the Hustler Z. Am I missing something, or is the Super Z a better machine? I don't care about the 15 mph speed, I just want a well built, quality commercial machine, with enough power to cut grass. Have the Hustler Zs with the 25 hp Kawasaki engine proven reliable over the years? Also, are the clippings that the XR-7 deck discharges chopped up fine or are they larger?

Both are great units, we sell a ton of both, I don't have the exact %.
If you don't need the speed then a Hustler Z is a great choice, you will love that 25 Kawi, it is the most popular engine we offer on the Hustler Z, it has plenty of torque and power with the 60" deck.
It will cut the clippings up average, it all depends on how much you are taking off in a single pass.

Thanks for the information. I purchased a 2008 Hustler Z 60" with a 25 HP Kawasaki. The 25 hp Kawasaki is a great combination with the 60" deck on the Hustler Z. It has more torque than the 25 HP Kohler on my Toro. I was impressed with how well it powered through 3 acres of fescue and bermuda that had not been cut for 3 weeks. I also absolutely love the smoothness of the hydros on the Hustler Z. It is a pleasure to operate. One question though: is it normal for the caster wheels on the Hustler to spin so freely when one is in the air. My Toros would never spin around and around when one was in the air. Just wanted to check and see if maybe if this was normal for Hustler or should I tighten them up some.

Congrats on the new ride !!
Welcome to the family !!
As to the question, how free? if your running it across a parking lot at full speed to the wheels shimmy? shake?
It is likely fine, but you can tighten up the bolt a little bit more to tighten it up, if that doesn't work talk to your dealer, he can add another shim on top of the bearing.

I own a Hustler Z. I still can't figure out how a person can justify the extra $1000 or so for just a wee bit more open running speed. The recommended cutting speed is only slightly different. Most places I've cut are really limited by ground conditions anyway. Even if I could cut faster I'm not sure it would cut well or if I'd be able to stay in the seat. I guess it would depend on what you're cutting.
