I'm curious to see what other people use when it comes to cable assist on the trailer gate. We use the "original backsaver" http://www.thebacksaver.com It works really well, I normally just lift it up with my foot, and have done so since about 7th grade. The problem is that the cables wear out annually, and we keep them lubed very well. What do you use, and how long do the cables last?

Get rid of the springs that can take a head off when they break.
We use torsion springs on all our trailers. It only takes one on each gate and the gate can be lifted with one finger.

Not all gates are designed with that type of hinge. But I'm sure they could be retrofitted to work.

Read the directions that come with the Backsaver lift... They specifically state to NOT lubricate the cable or rollers with anything. I did on mine once and the rollers then had trouble rolling because the cable would just slip thru them. Eventually it cut the rollers in half. Rollers are EXPENSIVE from them, almost $10 each. Lesson learned.

we switched out rollers to ones w/a groove in them so they won't slip, and that helped out a lot, thank you
