I'm looking to get a dump trailer and eventually a skid down the road. I would like to carry it in the dump trailer. Does anybody do this? I have seen a few guys around town with this kinda setup. What size trailer should I be looking at? I don't know much about skids sizes and weights and what I will get in the future. But I was thinking about getting a 7'x14' 14k GVWR.

That would be a good trailer for you. Get the biggest on what you can afford and truck can safely handle.

i have a bri mar 7x14 14k and have but a bobcat in the back. just make sure your truck can pull all that weight. its scary backing down on the ramps out of a dump trailer.

Back it in the trailer and pull out

Before you make a decision on a trailer you should probably go and look and operate some skids, so you can know exactly how heavy of a trailer you will need also you might want to look at getting a dump trailer now and then when you get a skid get an equipment trailer because it is hard to haul attachments, like forks, harley rakes in a dump trailer and still have your bucket on the skid. But I am sure there are people out there that get doing this fulltime with a dump trailer.. Oh, and the other thing about a dump trailer is it is hard to tie down your equipment in a dumptrailer because the machine is boxed in and hard to get in around the machine which can make tie down a bitc#!

Also I second the back on and pull off. I would much rather drive off of a trailer than back off, but with some equipment, like a backhoe and mini ex you have no choice but to back off.. In fact backing off is the only time I have ever dropped something off the ramps. thank god the only time it has ever happened to me was with a fourwheeler backing off of my deckover trailer, compared to my dad who dropped a backhoe off of the ramps when the right rear brake locked up. haha..

Same here, but mines a 6x12 with 14k axles. I would definitely upgrade to a 3/4 ton truck before buying a trailer that size.

I have a 6 x 12 cam dump trailer and i would definatly recomend going wider and longer if you can. I tow my with an F-350 diesel and my machine is at least 6200LB's.

Solid trailer, will pull pretty much any skid. I'd get a 1-ton truck for that, plus you need all the licenses etc. I've pulled about 14k with mine and its OK but I'd rather a bigger truck.

I'll second what else the others have said. These trailers are heavy my pj dump weighs 4500lbs empty. I have hauled my tractor on several occasions and load placement is also an issue. I ended up buying a deckover gooseneck also so I'm able to haul my TLB and all needed attachments. You'd need a 16ft dump trailer to make it work. And it would just be too heavy. You'll need at least a 3/4 ton to haul a low pro dumper. The deckover models are lighter and can be towed with a 1/2 ton but don't allow you to load equipment.

What kinda prices are you guys getting for a dump of similar sizes 7'x14' 14k? I can get a brand new one for $5600 is that decent?

wow 5600 that sounds pretty good I think my cam went for that much in '04 -'05 and it's not as big as that.but then agian it depends on the mfg. if you look at big lug trailers they are closser to $10K or the old foster line was around the same very well built i think but too much money for what they are .

I would reccommend looking at PJ trailers, they are a very high quality trailer with lots of different options, and I believe LED's became standard in them this year, There's a guy around here that sell's PJ trailers that could give you a rough estimate on different trailers, I believe his name is PJtrailerguy or something like that..

I think I paid $5500 for a 8x 16 gooseneck dump with spare tire and ramps.
It weighs abot 4800 empty.
When we load our deere skid steer 270, you need to raise the bed so the ramps are not so steep.

I second the PJ trailers. I liked the dump so much I bought a PJ gooseneck. The only place they have skimped on is the tires. However all manufactures are trying to cut cost. The price you quoted is pretty good,I'd jump on that.

Make SURE you have enough truck to cover yourself and check the DOT regulations in your area.

I've seen some pictures of some pretty stupid things because the person "only moves it slowly and not very often" and that somehow makes it safe. Please don't do something idiotic like that. You're not only endangering your own life, but you're endangering the lives of others as well. I'm not going to name names, but I'm sure Junior knows who I'm talking about. (And it's not him)

what does this have to to with my thread? Do you mean like not securing equipment down inside the trailer? As far as trucks I got plenty that can pull this heavy of a trailer.

There was a pic of a guy moving his CT332 or Cat CTL on a big azz float with an F150:hammerhead:. He says there's no need for a HD truck since he only moves it every once in a while. If you don't move it that often and don't want a HD diesel, just hire a mover to transport it.

What truck would you pull this with?

Junior M

You could pull a Ct332 with your truck musclecarboy.. We use our 2002 chevy 2500hd with a 6.0 to pull a Bobcat 335 mini ex which is about 600 pounds lighter than the Ct332..

I meant what truck would he pull his bobcat with:waving:

I have no prob pulling a big skid, I've moved the Deere 325 a few times with no issues.

Oh, I have been told my truck would handle his skid but I am sure it could stop it and pull it just not very well...

I want to get maybe an 06 Dodge 5.9 Cummins 2500. My friend is also selling an 04 F350 with a cummins in it as well.

Either truck should be able to tow it.

Ive but skids and a mini EX in a 12000lb 12' dump trailer it worked good. It just gets old humping the ramps and blocking the rear of the trailer so the truck wheel dont come off the ground. Its a pain to chain down the skid in the dump box. I needed snap brackets to pull the 12000lb trailer . I have DRW now and the truck rides much better. If you need to move the skid every day I would get a 16, EQ trailer with a low deck and drop down ramps .

Uhhh...
You'll want a full ton truck to be pulling around that kind of weight,
them dump trailers are pretty heavy and so are skidsteers.

A 3/4 ton can handle the dump empty and with certain loads,
but once it's up to capacity you can forget it, on that note
I use a 3/4 ton just to haul my 6x12 single axle with a Z in it
and that's enough for me.

erm...

All right then...
If you get the 3/4 ton I say you still leave yourself open to chance.

So I'd get the 350, then you eliminate the chance factor, you can't go wrong that way
because with that you can pull the dump with most anything in it.

Also if you ever get tired of this setup you could upgrade to a flat body steel double axle trailer
just for the skidsteer and should still have enough truck.

he can pull a dump trailer with a skid in it just fine with a 3/4 ton... and yeah I would reccommend just getting a dump trailer now and when you are in the position to buy a skid you usually have the work for it, so you usually have the money, so I would just buy an equipment trailer when you buy the skid...

These days 3/4 tons pull a great amount of weight. Topsites you use very dated 3/4 tons...SO to sum it up. You can use a 3/4 ton (newer that is) to tow a skid in a dump trailer. I constantly pulled 10-13k pounds with my 3/4 a couple years ago.

its outta an 04' dodge 2500. The engine is basically untouched. Everything is clean from what I saw. The truck and engine were supposed to get a bunch of things worked on but money fell short and the truck is just sitting at a shop all finished, it looks stock to me.
