Exactly what? Brand and Name? Tell about your watering schedule? Is it possible to take a photograph and attach it to a post?
I'll get back to you on possibilities. Roy

Great stuff.

Any chance you could have a fungus or a chinch bug problem?

Around here we are almost in an epidemic with St. Augustine lawns; others too. For take-all patch and brown patch fungus. Odds are when you threw the high nitrogen to it, the fungus grew out of control.

I would start with a soil sample.

Do not put anymore fertilizer until it is determined that you DO NOT have a fungus problem. It would be okay to go ahead and start a treatment for insects though.

Take all patch can destroy a lawn in a week, nice on Monday and dirt on Friday, be careful not to move it from site to site from your mower deck, its easy to do

Our NPP product will stop it in its tracks, it hydrolyzes fungi, basically it melts it. you will see new growth in 3 or 4 days. you may have to come back in 2 or 3 weeks for another application but it works great.

maintenance application rate is as a foliar at 1 ounce per 1000, cost is twenty cents per 1000. 1 gallon treats 128,000 sq ft, 1 quart 32,000 sq ft. It is a very safe product for you to use as it is a form of glucosamine

IMHO it sounds like you have a herbicide burn problem. I suggest heavy watering and no fertilizer until such a point you either see the St Augustine starting to come back for realize it is totally dead.

Should it be the worst case, St Augustine can be re-established by plugging for about 25% of the cost of having new Sod laid. BTW You may find it more economical to hire a Professional to care for your lawn in the future.

I agree depending on the degree of yellow/brown. One other possibility is leaf spot fungus. Daconil or some other fungicide labeled for leaf spot will control. First step is determine/identify problem. Take a fresh sample to your local Ag extension office. I totally agree with the last sentence in Rics statement. Fungicides can get extemely expensive. Prevention is the cheapest route and comes with the knowledge and expertise most homeowners just don't have.

Without seeing the turf we can only go by what T.Brandon posts about it. What he posted was a Liquid Weed & Feed application by a homeowner without experience. He doesn't even know which Weed & Feed he used. Why do you keep insisting he has fungus??? Fungus and Chemical burn do have the same appearance in early stages. But T.Brandon says his yard is brown all over and not in patches like fungus.

I told him to go get a soil test. Isn't that good advise?

Ric, I wasn't insisting that he had fungus, in particular leaf spot. I was merely throwing it out there as a possibility based on what he told us(with no pictures). I have fertilized St. Aug before and immediately conditions became perfect for fungus, usually leaf spot. The fert in my case didn't burn but did accelerate and magnify the fungus problem within 24-48 hrs. With no pics for reference, I suggested he take a fresh sample to his local ag extension office. My experience in the past has been that when the homeowner sees what they percieve to be brown, they think its dry and needs water or it needs fert in which case they do one or the other or both. Either one is like throwing gasoline on a fire as far as fungus is concerned. Brandon, Ric is absolutely right on not resodding. St. Aug spreads extremely fast. At my previous home, I took 10 yds of St. Aug, cut it into 4 inch squares, checker boarded it and by the end of the season I had 5k of solid St. Aug.

You need to treat the fungus before you attempt to do anything. Fungus is in the soil not just on the grass.

Treat your fungus problem. Wait until your fungus is no longer a problem. Then, Put down something low nitrogen, mild phosphorous and potassium. See what your lawn does by spring.

What kind of fertilizer do you recomend

Put a biosolid fertilizer on it now, such as Milorganite. Water deeply and thoroughly to a 6" depth, and then let it dry out before watering again. It's getting late in the season to see much of a response. Get the root system as healthy as you can, then evaluate it in the spring.

IMHO If you put a weed & feed fertilizer on your lawn and two weeks later it is dead. Common sense should tell you more fertilizer isn't the answer. I believe you burnt the lawn, But without seeing it I can't prove that. You could have burnt it with too much fertilizer, but I want to believe it was too much of the wrong weed killer.

I suggest you contact your local county extension agent and ask that he comes and looks at your lawn and give you a trained Professional opinion that has no economy interest. Your Tax Dollar pays his salary and the service is free. What ever testing the Extension Agent feels is needed, he can arrange. Given the time of year with shorter day light hours and colder nights, this might not be the best window of opportunity for re-establishing St Augustine.
