Does this hitch look like it has too much play where the pintle sits? Is it normal for a pintle to "pop" when I go forward, slow down, or back up? I can feel the eye moving quite a bit back and forth. Does anyone know if there are different size of pintle eyes? The hitch is a 2 5/16 ball combo hitch.

Thanks!

Unfortunately thats the story on pintle hitch's. They're capacity is abit higher than ball hitches. But they give a harsh ride. I'm used to ball hitches and had the need for a pintle. I bought the combo so I could still have a ball and the slope you mentioned is common. I'd go back to 2-5/16" in a heart beat if I didn't need the capacity.

My chipper is about 12600 lbs and heavy on the tongue weight. I have considered putting the type of ball coupler on the chipper that is rated for 14k lbs like I have on my dump trailer. Don't know if I can find it but I hate the slop.

If that is indeed the case, I wonder if adding some rubber to "dampen" the jolt when the pintle moves. I went with the heaviest combo I could find rated at 16k lbs and the ball rated at 20k lbs. I previously had been using a 12k rated combo but it didn't have as much slack for some reason.
Thanks!

Sadly but thats normal for a pintle..

If I were you Yellowdog I would just go ahead and switch it over to a ball hitch.. That is just me though.. The pintle ball combo you have now is obviously heavy enough to handle the wieght and the ball coupler will be heavy enough to handle it so go for it..

That is the cheap combination pintle the "Buyers" brand is better. If you need any hitches buy Buyers brand.

This is the hitch I have on my F-450

If you really want to go to a ball hitch

If your not taking the chipper off road then a ball hitch would be okay but any offroad use a pintle is a must.

I had one of these when I used a pickup etailer.com link to hitch (http://www.etrailer.com/pc-sbm~PH2.htm)
best hitch I ever had, was cushioned too
it also came w/ 3 different sized ball mounts that just slip on where the pin is

I have never seen that brand of coupler my combo the are sites on the ball like the buyers not down on the ring. I just bought a towmater trailer and it had a pintal set up on it I usually like to run with a ball because of the slop but for some reason I didn't even know it was behind me when i picked it up. maybe becuase it was not loaded but ti still had to weight arounf 3K lbs so there sould of been some slop if it was that bad .

I have to say check out etrailer.com they gave me a great price on my 2 5/16ths combo. Its a little unsettling the first few times driving a pintle hearing/ feeling a little thud as you make a corner, its still back there no worries lol. best of luck
