I guess I'll follow Micah and start an exclusive thread to post my pictures in of work and equipment. Last friday I signed the papers on the truck, and had bought the trailer a couple of weeks back. This week is the first time everything came together. Yes I know I need a bigger drop hitch, theres one on the truck now but it wasnt on there when I took the pics.
Enjoy!

You do good work, I don't have the patience to do great mulch jobs like that, especially when it's at my house and not getting paid for it.
Also, I'd get a hitch receiver for your truck that has a bigger drop. It looks like your trailer needs to be more level.

The work looks sharp, is this your first truck?

Yeah first truck, and I LOVE it so far lol. Just a spade to edge the beds, and keep it maintained with the trimmer. I added that one sideways edge picture just in reference to that thread about kreft and the edging lol. The second set of pics are at a customer's house.

Nice work man! I broke the bank to get the diesel first (I'm 17 too) but it paid off since I had a 6-figure year in my first year! I was planning on 20-30k at MOST, but it sure was crazy. The only thing I don't like is the reg cab, I always find I'm using the back with the seat folded up to stick tools, boxes, samples, etc.

i agree!

question though, why dont you take the motor from the 48" b/d wb and put it on the hydro lesco?

oakwdman
10-12-2008, 09:33 PM
Because the motor onn the bobcat 48" is a 13hp and it's way older.... Looking for a 17hp recoil for the lesco to replace the 17hp elec. start. that was on it.

Txns and Dura,
Truck is going to go back to the dealer tomorrow morning because they're gonna replace the one mirror that fell off when they were cleaning it before I bought it. I'm gonna have them take off the running boards also. Maybe I'll try and sell them on ebay and put that towards some black step bars. But the point is they're coming off, I'm not too fond of them.

Not to get too off topic or hijack your thread, but I have to request some more info on this statement. Are you in highschool, Platinum? What kind of equipment do you have? Are you paying taxes? I'm honestly curious.

Part time. I'm 17y.o. so this is more of a hobby than a business right now with about 10 accts. Before the comments start coming, as soon as I turn 18 It's legit all the way I just want the business to be able to be in my name when I do it. And I LOVE the Br600. My stihl's have never disappionted me and my dealer is awesome (ralph helm inc., they were in turf mag. sometime last year).

did you ever find a dump truck you were looking for?

i think you maid a very wise choice. i would look into getting a dump insert and then make a big leaf box for it. i have a thread of mine i bought with a aluminum box on it somewhere on here.

i have the same truck but a bit older, one tip is to greese the front u-joints as much as you can once a week at least. for somereason they seem to go out alot.

oakwdman
10-14-2008, 12:28 AM
Maybe a dump insert next yr, will be getting a plow for sure. Need to put more $$ back into the bank before winter.

yeah my dodge is only a jem cuz i have fixed everything on it. now all i have left is to replace the engine and it will be all new, exept the rusting out body that falling off. its ok i will keep it around and keep it working but im getting a new diesel truck sometime soon.

what kind of plow are you going to get? new used?

oakwdman
10-14-2008, 12:36 AM
used, would like a boss or western. Would LOVE a stainless fisher but they're few and far between around here. Hoping for an ultramount but will probably end up with a uni just because they seem to be selling really cheap.

oakwdman
10-14-2008, 12:39 AM
Speaking of plows I was at the plow dealer today to grab a weather guard's version of the back rack and was drooling over the western V they had on display. Blizzard looks like a very solid plow, more than I ever realized.

P.Services
10-14-2008, 12:41 AM
yeah i agree im thinking the same thing. my dad ran over my plow with a very large excavator so i will have to get a new one for the dodge. i have plans to start building plows, hopefully this winter i will start the first prototype that will go on a f-750 size truck. they are going to be like no other.

i really like the name of your company, few people use "concepts" and it gives a very professional and educated feel to it. i had thought you were some big company just based off your name.

oakwdman
10-14-2008, 12:45 AM
Thanks! That is exactly what I wanted out of concepts. I feel it accomplishes the same thing that "landscaping" would but at a higher level. I actually got the idea from a company around me Called "Landscape Concepts Management" (they have a really nice logo / website and they're trucks are pretty eye catching)

i knew you got it from them!! i talked to them last winter about plowing two farmer jacks for them. they have crews up around me to. i agree very nice trucks but i cant say the same about their work.

are you going to paint your truck a catchy color and get some decals? this will sound like b.s. but i swear as soon as i did my truck up and started wearing a company shirt i started getting waaay better jobs. people like to work with mid size companies i find and they will think you are part of something bigger then just a one man wreaking crew.

if i didnt go with my green color i would have gone with a darker purple with pink and white letters, ya sounds gay but i know no one has seen it before and i bet it would get the attention of and apeal to those who make the call for services (women)

oakwdman
10-14-2008, 01:00 AM
When I add anotoher truck, or get something else for more personal use, I want to paint this the same light green that the leaf is in my logo and then plaster the Oakwood Logo across the side of the truck in brown letters the same way that the "IMAGE" guy did with his chevy.

P.Services
10-14-2008, 01:14 AM
i wouldn't wait do it now that sounds like it will look great. just have maco paint the truck they do great work.

i drive my trucks every day for personal use and like it. it gets me attention. i dont think it looks bad at all, people either think you have a good job and are some one big to get a company truck or they look up to you because you own a huge company. just between you and me it helps get chicks like you wouldn't even believe!!! i dont even want to admit to the stunt i pull with that truck to get numbers. swear to god.

oakwdman
10-14-2008, 01:19 AM
It is definatley in the plans for whe I turn 18 (june of next year). Thats when I'm going completly legit (dad didnt have a job for a while etc. dont want it be in my parent's name) and will letter everything up then. I think that bright green with brown lettering would be the **** and would really grab alot of attention!

My truck does the job, and gets good mpg's, Pulling a trailer about 12 in the city, no trailer in the city 14, highway no trailer 18, highway trailer pulling a pop-up camper 110 miles I got 14.5mpg.

Sometimes I want to do some mods for better MPG, but then I realize that I bought a truck to work, and if it gets good mileage then that's awesome, but if not I can deal with it. I'll be able to get a better sense of what mpg I get during the winter when I'm empty and not pulling a trailer at all. At least I didnt really expect to get good mileage with a V8 gasser in a full size truck, but at the same time I didnt really expect under 10mpg lol.

you should (maybe you do) keep a nice little lawn sign in your own yard. once your truck is painted up and letterd i bet you will get a lot more. people will probly use you more because you live in their hood.

Looking good, man. . . but 10 lawns + 3 mowers? How does that work out for you?
Nice truck, btw!

oakwdman
11-24-2008, 12:07 AM
10 lawns in my neighborhood, I do more outside my neighborhood. The story behind the 3 mowers is I originally bought the 48" bobcat. Then the 36" bobcat. Then the 48" lesco hydro w/ a blown engine with the intentions to put a new engine on it. And then 2 weeks ago the engine on the 48" bobcat finally gave up. So 2/3 of my mowers have blown engines. I'll probably end up selling the 2 for parts and keep that 36".

MJS
11-24-2008, 12:16 AM
Ah, now it makes sense - funny story though. . .so if two of them have blown engines, how did you get them on the trailer?

Anyways. . . so how many lawns do you service altogether?

oakwdman
11-24-2008, 12:20 AM
the driveway slopes downhill, I put the trailer about halfway down and got a running start lol, I kid you not. Alltogether I have about + or - 20 for next year. If I go any larger than that I wont have ANY social life between this baseball and school

Here's a few pics off of a real camera before I put the trailer into storage today. and one of the hitch setup I bought because the trailer not sitting level was irritating me ALOT! Completly overkill for that size trailer but it's the only thing that dropped enough and could still hold a decent amount of weight.

Ok thanks, it looks like you've come a long way in the span of a year, I'm still deciding whether or not to go with a trailer or just keep using my current system because I've had to cut back on the number of yards I'm taking on for 09 because most of the time I'll be away at college but still close enough (less than an hour and a half away) for some yards but not the number I had last season. Oakwdman can i make one suggestoin you may wanna look into mud flaps for the front wheels on your dodge. My dad has an 02 dodge ram 2500 4x4 and he takes great care of the truck. But the bottom of the front doors and around the fenders in the front are starting to rust very bad. It is a common thing with dodge trucks but we were told that mud flaps would help because it will help keep rocks and mud from the bottom of the door to help prevent rust. Im only telling you this because I would hate for it to happen to your nice dodge.

i will second that mud flap comment. did you do a front u-joint on your truck? did you have to pull the wheel bearing?

Upper U joints, track bar and front axle U joints are happening when I go on spring break (one more week). Should be fun.
Damn Picasso, why do you have to tempt me with things like that. I dont have the cash for that right now. I'm holding out for a plow now when the prices are best and demand is lowest. Who knows I might see something else and jump on that.

i just bought a new white truck and pulling my green trailer every day i just want to vomit. it makes me physically sick every time i see my reflection.

The first part of your reply is rediculous. Weather you are or are not, what does that matter?

Anyway, his logo will look real good on that black trailer. His truck is also lettered, its just hard to see in that pic. He is a part timer and looking to buy another truck so im pretty sure he has no intentions of repainting his setup until he gets a new truck.

I know a lot about market and promotiong myself as well as graphic design. I am well aware of image and branding and though plenty of people do not like the image of my colors or vehicles here on this site, I get people telling me all the time saying that they see my crews all over the place and I only have 3 trucks and 1 trailer. And one of the trucks isnt lettered yet. While entire image needs to be considered, a catchy memorable name with a good logo/look will go just as far as a catchy truck and trailer color combo IMO.

the first part of my reply was just me joking around. i do agree with you on all parts but think how far a catchy logo will go with catchy colors? dont wait around get them painted and start to burn it into the brains.

Here is some of the progress on getting everything organized int he trailer. Tomorrow I am picking up greentouch: "extreme" 3 place trimmer rack, 2 bp blower racks and 1 5 gal water cooler or whatever you call it. Will mount them tomorrow and get some additional pics. Trimmers are being mounted on the right and both blowers will be mounted on the left.

Here's how it sits now. Added the extreme 4 place trimmer rack (only have the 2 trimmers but it was only $25 more than the 3 place lol.) Also the 2 blower racks.

Here are some pics with the sides on the truck. I never got any last fall and figured I'd snap a few in my spare time lol.

do you have any pics of the inside and up next to the window? I am trying to build one for my F250

I dont have any pics of that, and theres nothing there. Just the backrack. I dont really have any problems with stuff falling through. plus its much easier to take off when I dont need the sides anymore.

Ur setup looks good but curious as to why you carry around all those trash cans, rakes, and other tools that prolly dont get used that much...? Dont u get tired of all that in your trailer? Looks good tho!

Because the enclosed served like a storage unit. plus I have a few full service accts that I'm always doing something else besides mowing on each week. So it is just alot easier to have everything on hand so I'll never for get anything because it will be with me.
