Or equiptment if not engine related.

How hard is it to post that BASIC info ????

You come to this forum (basically cause yer too cheap to pay a mechanic, or BUY a MANUAL) for answers, but fail to provide BASIC info.

Hello, Dominoes? I want a pizza........

How do you expect to catch that "BigFish", Now that you've blown your cork....:)

It's much better now getting info posted than what it was a couple years ago before I had the sticky put up. But there are a few that fail to read it and get a free link in their thread. It only cost them more down time by not doing so.

We have the same problem at our parts counter...."I need a spark plug and air filter for my mower" Sure what's the model number ? "Duh....it's red !" :hammerhead:

Oh come on guys. You mean when a customer comes in and wants a drive belt for his "briggs and stratton" lawnmower you cant just go grab one off the shelf? They are all the same anyways.
What I find is amazing is that when you ask if they have model numbers they almost always tell you that they are missing. How many times do you have a unit in the shop that has no numbers on it?

Those people get 3 phone calls. If they don't respond, I send them a certified letter stating "We will dispose of the machine and no compensation will be made for doing so." That usually gets them to pick up their junk. If not, it goes in the dumpster.

Actually see it quite often. Engine decals tend to come/wear off on older Kohlers or the numbers on the shrouds of Briggs rust to pits that are unreadable.

All right...
I will say thou...

Is it not possible, for a spark plug, to educate the customer on model and serial number,
then sell them a Champion RJ-12YC or equivalent and let them know since this is about
the most common plug that it might or might not work?

Of course they bought it, if it's no good there's no return, but for a dollar (or 3) I dare say the customer would take this chance.
Granted for bigger things it's another story, but helpfulness can be good.

I was at my Walker dealer a couple weeks ago and heard this one at the counter:

Man walks in, "I need a gasket for my mower, it's a four horse Briggs"

Counter guy: "Ummm, do you have the serial number, or the model, or what specific gasket you needed?

Man: "Ummm, no. I need that to get a gasket? I guess I should have brought it with me..."

Everyone else within earshot: *trying not to laugh outloud until the guy walked out of the building*... Commence laughing.

Counter guy: "Man, we may be good here, but we ain't that good"
