I am buying a used truck to add to the fleet. The existing paint is in perfect shape, white cab, black dump body. I would like to paint the cab to match the other trucks, medium gray. Maaco quoted $350, local body shop said about a grand. How will the inexpensive maaco job last compared to a reputable shop?

I've used maaco twice, and both times the job turned out great.

You get what you pay for from Maaco. The do a piss poor job taping. As a work truck I guess you could live with it, just depends how anal you are about your stuff.

I am not sure, but now I know where to take my old bmw for a paint job.

Look here, it's used, won't hurt a thing.

Unless you're made of money, which I'm not.

$350 to paint the cab sounds too good to be true. I don't know who does it, but someone in my neighborhood likes to drive golf balls, and I've got a bucket with about 3 dozen I've found while mowing my lawn over the last few years. One of this summer's golf balls landed on the hood of my pickup. I took it to Maaco and have their written estimate to knock out the dent and repaint the hood. It'll cost me close to $350, or about what your Maaco quote was to repaint an entire cab. So far, I haven't brought it to them to do the work, but I probably will. My pickup, by the way, is a Ford F-150.

$350 is probably the materials cost for real paint. If it REALLY doesn't matter, consider a roller and rustoleum-or not painting at all. Why not just add your logo ? It will look alot classier

Get what you can afford and a quality you can live with! $350 for a paint job is not bad, but if the truck has dents and dings & rust then the paint job will turn out like crap (unless your paying to fix that) But if the truck is strait then don't worry about it...It's a work truck right?

Do yourself a favor and wash the cab with a good strong detergent and BRUSH. Pay attention to the cowl vent slots and around the windshield. If the windshield is gasketed, most are, force the water around the gasket to get the dirt out. Get under the rocker panels and wheel wells. If ya got the time/energy take a green scotchbrite pad and and scuff up all the nooks and crannies, and pay close attention to the wind. gasket area. Also go over the cowl vent slots ( if the tk has em ).
Prep work is 90% of a good paint job. Ya want the paint to stick!
