I have a Walker MTGHS serial # 58097 with a 48" deck and a 20 HP Kohler
1 - Can anyone tell me how old this machine is and which owners manual applies to it? I have downloaded a few.
2 - How much gear oil do the deck gearboxes require and do i fill each side separately?. I was told the fluid level should be just above the top of the bearing race. (the vertical race holding the horizontal drive shaft). I am concerned that would be too full, particularly as i see no breathing vent.
any 80/90 gear oil work? And is there a way to drain the old milky stuff out?

The year is stamped just above the serial number. The deck gear boxes are to be filled with 80/90 gear oil as to come up to half way of the shaft. Yes, if you over fill the gear boxes it can (and I have seen it happen) build up pressure and blow out the oil seal on the center gear box where the input shaft of from the mower goes in. As to draining the old oil out you can use a suction device or just turn the deck so and let it drain out on its own.
