Heres the deal, I want to put some sides on the truck and am wondering how high I should go? More or less what would look good? The real reason for sides is I want a place to put a logo and phone # without doing anything permenant to the truck. I originally thought to go as high as the cab but then thought it would look bad because I have a tool box in the truck and wouldn't be able to get the sides flush with the cab. Then I thought about just one 2x6". If I go bigger I would get either some corregated (sp??) plastic or a banner type material to bolt over the wood to make it look a little cleaner. and would do the same thing with smaller sides but it would obviously be smaller. So what would you do?
here's a pic of the truck, it doesnt have the cab guard on but the toolbox is there so you can get an idea of where the sides would stop.

i used 3 pieces of 1 x 8 by 8ft #2 pine per side from home depot (8 bucks a board) which came to the top of my truck cap.
i measured my tool box and notched out the bottom 1x8 so it would fit over the tool box
next 2x4's were used to hold it together i cut the rear one to fit in the stake pocket
for the front i mounted a 5 in piece of 2x4 side ways and used 2 c clamps to hold it to the bed rails.
next i made a cross bar for the top of the sides for by the cab of truck
i painted it with a semigloss for a nice finish...goodluck
so basically i went cab high and notched around the toolbox so i can hold lots of clippings when i cut and not have to take the toolbox off

But can you still open the tool box? How about a picture of this setup?

that's a good looking truck. I think wood sides will look like crap, more so when they stop at the tool box.i have the wood sides on a older truck of ours but it's a cleanup truck so they are needed.[and they look like crap] they only idea i have is the magnet signs, or go for it and letter the doors.

Dont put sides on your bed just for advertising. Do something in your back window or tailgate. Or just your trailer.

i cant open the tool box when the sides are on, but the sides are only on when i am mowing, or hauling brush, etc.
the days i dont mow they come off in about 5 minutes, and weigh about 20 lbs, so easy on/ off
i do loose some space from the toolbox but i need my tools and dont want to take a 300 pound toolbox on and off...

Already planning on something for the trailer. I want something that Is obvious advertsing when in "work" mode but is clean and off the truck for "Personal Vehicle" mode.

So is advertising the only reason you want the sides?

yes and no, would definatley use them for leaves, mulch etc. but the main reason behind getting them up is for advertising.

Well there are much more professional ways to advertise then that... but if its for more than it would be ok.

actually leaning away from them now. Thinking more bug guard, tailgate and the top of the windshield. Maybe the toolbox or back window. Maybe something running down the bottom of the doors/bed. Better name for this thread would probably be "I'm gonna run off a bunch of truck lettering ideas, tell me which ones you like, and which ones you don't".

I would like to get my windows tinted over winter and hopefullly my back window lettered. And hopefully magnets. I really like Micah's bug guard, my truck has one and I really like the looks of his but I'm not sure if I want to do mine yet. Keep us posted

Ha! I like the bug shield (like Micah) Back windows are ok but i prefer the tailgate. The door and bed are good also. Its really how big do you wanna go?

I could also entertain the thought of taking out the tool box for fall. rihgt now I'm thinking out with the box. This is the plan as of right now:
1.pine sides Flush with and as high as the cab running the length of the bed.
2.either a banner or corragated (sp?) plastic with my logo, phone # and services (could
get a bunch of services printed then use velcro os something to change them with the
seasons.) bolted on the sides similar to the picture I have attached but obviously on a
much smaller scale.
3.Oakwood Landscape Concepts on the bug shield (not the logo just the company
name).
4.The logo and phone # lettered on the top of the windshield (maybe backwards so it
can be read in a rear view mirror)

step 1) go to maco with $400 and get the truck painted
step 2) take the truck to a few different sign shops and they will take pictures and come up with multiple ideas.
step 3) decide
the stuff on windshields and bug Shields is as useless as tits on a nun.
do it up right like lcm's trucks
dont even lie your parents have mucho $ hit them up for a small loan for a v-plow and a ez-dumper and you will be sooooo much happier with your decisions in life.

Its funny because I just finished building temporary sides for the truck. I come from the shop and see this thread.
I think magnets are the way to go for your sign.
I need to get at least 4 yards of mulch in the bed of my truck, so I built me some wooden sides. Once the job is over them suckers are getting stored and the tool box is going back on.
Oh and I don't know if its been said before but, NICE DODGE. Single cab long beds look tough, epically with those big tow mirrors.

Picasso, getting everything done up like that is definatley gonna happen, just not until I'm outta HS (next summer). lol, fat chance in h*ll I'll get a loan from my parents. Want to keep things subtle for now, while slowly getting my name out there.

Alright, made the sides. Painted them black for now. IHeres the plan:
I have a family friend who does lettering on race cars. He would only be able to do it if it was on metal, so I was thinking just a thin piece of sheet metal bolted on the sides and have the logo, big phone # and some basic services lettered on the sides. Obviously I would paint the metal before the lettering. I was also thinking of having him so something small like etwman has on his trucks on the taligate and doors.
