Let me say I'm a newbie and this was my first year. I picked up the mulching kit for my 52" Ferris yesterday. Was a $142 bucks, ouch. There are 2 pieces that fit under the mower deck and then the discharge cover. My question is do I need those 2 pieces installed under the deck? On my other mower you just put the discharge cover on.

I would try it without and if it is not mulching things down good enough than I would put the other two pieces on.

Ditto, I need to put my mulching kit on my Gravely as well

Only 142 bucks? That was a lot cheaper than the one I just got for my exmark for 259!

The two pieces that go under the deck are part of mulch system. They keep the grass from flowing through the deck towards the chute. They direct the grass clippings downward. If you just put on the chute blocker the grass will flow toward the chute and clump. This may work if grass is short, but not when it is long.

I'm needing to mulch leaves. Grass is about gone around here and what mowing I'm still doing isn't long.

I would put the cups on and leave the chute cover off.

I have a mulch kit on mine and I love it, my neighbor has the same mower without it and you can SEE the difference in our lawns. Put those on, they work well! I know it is a pain but anything good requires work.
Jack it up w/a floor jack and get under there, and remember to block it up good.
I just put a stripe kit on mine tonite, also added the light kit (bright!) and the trailer hitch. :cool2:
