I 'm putting new hydro pumps, bdp-10a-427, on my exmark lazer. Do I just fill the new pumps with oil then put them on, or is there anything else I have to do ? Thanks.

No, you need to fill the pumps, the new filter, the wheel motors, jack it up, release the parking brake, and by hand turn the wheels in both directions till you feel resistance in the tires, both sides. Then check your fluid level, make sure its full, and open the dump valves up one turn. Start the mower and run for a few minutes, rear wheels still off the ground, stroking the levers back and forth. Stop the engine, shut the dump valves, and restart it. Stroke the levers again back and forth. The3 wheels should start turning within 20-30 seconds. Do this once or twice. If the wheels start going, hold the sticks fowards for a few minutes and let them go, then return to neutral and do the same in reverse. If the wheels don't go in 20-30 seconds and are moaning loadly, shut the mower off and go throuth the procedure until you feel resistance. You can start it and crack open the lower hose on the wheel motor, and push the stick foward to release air in the system. If the pumps don't take off, don't keep running it as you most likely have an air lock in the hydro system, and CAN burn the new pumps up in less than a minute. Dixie Chopper claims it only takes 16 seconds to burn one up that is air locked. Good Luck.

Thanks alot for your response. The dump valve, is that the nut you turn to release the pressure in the pumps when you have to push a mower ?

Yeah, thats the dump valve. Why are you replacing pumps? Make sure you clean everything else out, any contaminants in the system will eat up a pump really quick.

Im replacing because the controlls are very sloppy, one side is losing power when I going up or down a hill and it's hard to make it track straight. I bought this mower used, and the guy I bought it from ran it alot with a bagger with weights on it, I'm guessing that put a strain on the pumps. The mower is great and I got a good price on it, so after this I should be set.
