Yard Machines 13AS695G088, S/N 1L148H20055. Transmission is P/N 718-0255A, current part number is 918-0255A.
I got this mower after it was sitting for a while I just replaced the activating pins and activating (brake) arm, as those were missing. Rust could be an issue, but the pins don't push in when I push on the brake, the rod and spring connected to the actuating arm move until it is time for the actuating pins to do their job. The actuating arm is in contact with the pins. It looks as if the pins are resistant to any external force.
I want to understand how to replace the brake pads. The disc brake is mounted inside the transmission housing. Underneath the transmission housing and located close to the actuating pins, is a small rectangular opening and has what appears to be two pieces of plastic sandwiched between three pieces of metal - alternating. ( M/P/M/P/M)
This band of alternating plastic/metal I assume is associated with the brakes, the bottom of this M/P "assembly" is pushed about 1/4 inch up into the opening, as measured from the outside the transmission. I can easily touch it with the tip of my finger. I don't know if this "assembly" has fallen out of place - is that my problem ? Is it okay to try and remove this item from the transmission. Should I be doing that at all ?
I can see past this "assembly" up into the disc brake chamber and can see the actuating pins.
Am I screwed ? Inquiring minds want to know.:wall
