I just picked up an Exmark Metro 36" with a Kaw 12.5 HP. It has been sitting for 2-3 years. It started once after pulling and pulling and ran decent. I have rebuilt the carb and now there doesn't seem to be any spark. So from what I know it could either be the coil or the flywheel/magnet. Is there any other options that it could be and how do I check and narrow down what is before I go spending money on something? Is there a way to check the coil with my basic tools? Yes I did put a spark plug in it...

Have you checked all the safety switches are in neutral? Blade clutch etc. Check earth leads etc Then go onto coil testing.
Good luck, Phil

You would have to post a Spec# to be sure but your engine may have a two piece ignition system #1 igniter #2 ignition coil. You can look on the side of the block that the dipstick is on and see if you can find a small silver box with one male spade connector(see pic)

If you scroll down in this thread, Restrorob has posted the test procedures for the igniter.

it was simple. The shift lever was off and apparently could not go into nuetral, so once I got it right and into neutral it was all good and she fired right up! Thanks for the advice though...
