Private homeowner with 7.5 acre property - Three months ago, my one year old, 27HP Super Z (still under warranty) began having intermittent starting problems. When not working, fan would come on but not crank - not even a click. All fuses and wiring appears fine. The first two times, the problem mysteriously corrected itself after a couple of days (it just started working!). Yesterday, after mowing for 15 minutes, I stopped the mower to pick up something in the grass. When I went to start it again - nothing - dead as a doornail (just the fan comes on). Today, after trying again to start it (to no avail), I did the following:
- Inspected all wiring for breaks
- Unattached, cleaned and reattached all wiring connections/terminations
- Inspected all three fuses for broken links

Unfortunately, everything looks fine yet it still will not start or even click.

Suggestions/ideas? Could this be a problem with the starter, solenoid, relay?

Thanks in advance for assistance.

Electrical problems are very hard to diagnose without being there in front of the mower.
It may be a relay, you have 6 of them under the control panel.
They are all the same, you can look for the starter relay and swap it with another and see if that isolates it, then you can buy a relay.
There was a relay update a couple years ago, I am not sure if your unit fell into that update range of serial #'s
What is your serial #?

PJ,

Thanks for the reply. The relay explanation makes sense to me. My serial number is 07052560.

If its still under warranty take it to your dealer and they can fix it up. Might be the relays under your key switch pannel. Might be something in the starter.

Good advice, if you havent found the reason yet you need to get it to your dealer.
