the dump conversion works well, its no replacement for a one ton dump truck though. I would probaly buy a dump insert if i were to do it all over again but it weights a lot less than an insert and can handle light debris such as grass clipping, leaves, or 3 or 4 yrds of mulch.
ill take some pics of how the loader is mounted, but i simply welded 2 pieces of 2x2 angle iron to the trailer, drilled 4 mounting holes and bolted everything together. just took some measuring and guess & check

i have wing nuts holding the tarp on the back/ tailgate of my truck. if there are large branches, or sticks i can take one or two of the wing nuts off and throw the larger debris in
Drew Gemma
10-23-2008, 10:06 PM
just untie 2 ropes throw it in but with our fall clean ups 3 houses will end up getting additional fees because the sticks are so bad with the leaves we usally fill up the other truck twice through leaf season we pile them up on site and with a diff truck two guys go get them
I had an old ford that i put the dump conversion on the factory bed it was great for leaves but everything else was a pain and not very safe in my opinion it was a long bed so it wobbled a lot when you lifted it.

Yea there is a 10 or 12 ft hose that come off the leaf loader on the tongue of the trailer. We can pack 20 cu yards of leaves in there. If I can offer any advice for your set up it would be to mount you loader to the front of the trailer so you dont have to take it on and off to unload. I can send just one guy to dump ours at the end of the day. Saves on labor cause Im not making it back with dump runs.

That won't be happening. I put in alot of hours for that setup. I'm solo, so when i go to the dump, i just pull the pin, and get my brother to take it off with me. I would imagine that i would dump once a week. I chose the back of the trailer because my streets are kinda tight, so i would rather back into a pile then pull along side a pile. Plus the tongue weight and a few other things. Overall i'm very happy with the setup, but a little disappointed with the shredding ability.

Those leave plows save so much time. How are you like the toro? Nice dodge....what made you go with a 2500 srw instead of a 3500 drw??
The leaf plow is saving us a lot of time, we should have bought one sooner!
The toro is great. The cut is excellent (even at high speed), it's very comfortable, and the bagger works great. Hate to say it, but it is a far superior machine compared to our old JD 757.
We went with a SRW for snowplowing purposes. We didn't want to risk traction issues with dual wheels and the extra width would make it difficult for some of the accounts we do. We may look into a dual rear wheel when we replace our oldest truck. Also, parking would be an issue for us right now.

Have you tried the new 800 series? My dealer is now only a JD dealer and is really looking to get me into their "stander" and new 800 series mower. Not a big fan of JD but I put it next to an exmark and it was a lot beefier. Also on your 8x16 if you added say another 48" stander how much room would you have left?
We havn't tried an 800 series. I havn't heard very good reviews on them either, but I can't say it's not a good mower. I don't plan on switching from toro anytime soon, I love the machine and the dealer is awesome.
Our 8x16 is loaded to the max. The only thing we have room to add is a second 21" (which we will be doing next year), and it will be very cramped. Next trailer will be a 20' for sure.
nnj18
11-08-2008, 10:33 AM
So with just the two 36"s and the 60" with bagger its cramped? I guess I'll buy a 18' then....
I've been looking at JD a lot more closely, because 1- me dealer is great and 2- his price is unbeatable. So who knows...maybe I'll just get a exmark 60"...
[QUOTE=nnj18;2594181]So with just the two 36"s and the 60" with bagger its cramped? I guess I'll buy a 18' then....
QUOTE]
When the bagger is on the 60" machine, we only haul the 36" stander and a 21"; we don't have room for the 36" WB. Normally we haul the 60" without the bagger, the 36" stander, 36" WB, and 1 21". We will be adding a second 21", and that's all it will be able to hold.
Always get bigger than what you need!

Hi Guys, Here is a picture of my leaf setup as promised 1998 Chevy 3500 one ton dump stakebody I purchased brand new, 6ft high sides, Pulling 25hp Giant Vac Leaf Loader, I'll get picks up soon of the other pickup and enclosed trailer, maybe my lazer z's pushing piles of leaves if I can find the time to take more pictures. I have a friend that has a landscaping business and helps me out we load the little wonder blowers, backpacks, tarps, rake, gas cans in his pickup, or I bring my other truck to the jobs with the enclosed trailer if I need to do a final mowing. My accounts are close by to our shop so I can afford to have 2 trucks at each job.:)

how many of those size piles do you fit in that truck?

I can fit at least 5 piles like that in the truck in one load if the leaves are wet, I limit to 5 if it is wet due to the weight and not wanting to overload the truck. The leaf box on the truck bed is 6ft high by 8ft wide by 12ft long. That pile was dry oak leaves so probably 6 of 7 piles like that per truck load. The vac shreads the leaves so good and with so much force the green tarp actually gets a bulge in it like if the truck had pvc or steel arches then it is time to go to the dumpsite. I don't pay by weight to dump, I go to a mulchyard and pay per truck load to dump, so the more leaves in my truck the more I profit. I bought the leaf loader brand new and this is my 3rd season using it. You can hear it 2 blocks away when it is running (Great Advertising everyone hears it watches it and wants a price for me to do their leaf Cleanup)

Half the people on here probably dont have trailer taillights, or even report taxes and your worried about it obstructing their view. Btw, tree trucks can get away with it, having cages over the cabs with posts off the bumper but... they are not 20 inches.

Here is both trucks, F350 with dump insert and 16 ft trailer, and f250 with 12 ft dump trailer and 10hp vac. We had 4 houses on the same street so they were together.

you should make your F-250 a dually....looks to be sagging a little in the rear...
CrewCutEnterprises

The truck looks like it is sagging because of the way the bed was built. I made it so it sat as low as possible to make it easier to load the truck.
Also, How would a dually make it not sag?, more leaf springs or timbrens or air bags or overload springs would help it not sag since the sag would be in the springs, not in the tires. But yes fully loaded its heavy and it does sag.

I see one of the gates is bent, is that from one of the guys flipping the toro off of it? I read your flatbed thread and remember you talking about a mower falling off.

Nope, That was from the truck towing a 16 ft trailer and it has a cage on the front, well someone jacknifed it triing to get out of a dead end road and bent it, still works, just bent a little

oh its not bad at all. you lucked out with minimal damage. The green grill looks awesome especially with the graphics on the side of the truck. It really jumps out from the rest of the super duty's on the road. I never saw how the white diesel turned out you should post up a pic of that if you have any. Oh and was that done with a brush or did you mask it off and spray the grill? Good luck in 2009!

Probably becuase you answered it with you first line. Hey we all have to start somewhere, I started with an explorer, then a beat 89 f150 that sagged worse.
Use what you got till it breaks, then go bigger, and the ford f150 is the most abused work truck, everyone you see sags because people use them and put alot in them. I love that green color!

Very nice stuff Perfect Earth.
There is no way we up north could back on someone's lawn without destroying it this time of year. Wish I could, but I would leave 6" ruts.

why don't you mount the leaf vac on the front of the trailer and put a box on the dump as well.....seems like a waste of a dump truck.

Thank you! Well, I took these pic a few weeks ago when it was VERY dry here. We have never put a truck/trailer on this turf in prior years. It was perfect this year- very solid....I was still nervous though! But not a mark. And a good thing, cause we had 6-7 HUGE piles out in the middle, away from the drive.

I primarily do landscaping and need to have one bed free to haul stuff around. Plus, the tube goes in the dump- as well as rakes, blowers, fuel cans, etc... AND, this set-up requires no metal fabrication on the trailer- have not wanted to get into that. I actually don't do TOO many leaves each year. I have a full-time gig (landscape/estate grounds-related) where I bill out my equipment. I have thought about building a nice box on the truck bed but I'd need to fabricate a swing-away mount for the vac (PLUS the box itself)... and I just don't do enough leaves at this time. I'll make more hauling soil, rock, etc, for my job.
