View Full Version : Just found a $100 bill

LAWNS AND MOWER

Finished a commercial mulching job this weekend and found a $100 bill in one of the bushes. My delima is whether I should keep it or return it to the doctors office? I have that scene from Animal House stuck in my head where the guy gets the 15 year old girl into the bedroom and she passes out. He then has a devil and angel telling him what to do. I've found money before but never $100. This raises the ante. I'm a very honest person but $100 bonus would be nice in the offseason. For every reason I come up with to keep it, I come up with a reason to turn it in. I've considered talking to the office people and ask them if any one has reported any money lost. I wouldn't give a $$ amount. Any suggestions???

i wouldnt say how much it is but i would ask the office personel if anyone has reported any money lost. if they say so then ask how much. $100 i a chunk of money to lose. check around but dont give an amount cause somebody might just claim it.

Must you even ask such a question?

You Southerners.....

I say...finders keepers...it's not like it is a wedding band or a tangible piece of property.

If it were a residence than maybe, but who knows where the wind blew it from.

I mentioned at the end of my thread that I wouldn't give a dollar amount. I forgot to mention that the bill was pretty fresh meaning that it wasn't sitting outside for a long period of time.

PS Scraper- What does location have to do with this??? It's a question of morals and piece of mind.

Relax...I just don't see how it bothers you that much. I would've spent it already! Guess I'm immoral and have no conscience, eh? If it bothers you so much...donate it to the church!

Dude, you think too much!

I was wondering where I left that........
Thanks for finding it for me.....e-mail me for info where to send it.....
:D :D :D :D

Honestly, I would ask around to see if anyone lost it like you said, never know it could of been recent, and the family that lost it could really need it.
If no one clams it in like 30 days then I would bank it.

I'm a tight wad. I can tell you at any given time how much money is in my wallet, bank account, etc. Whoever lost it, doesn't deserve to get it back. Spend it, and forget about it!

Now if its tangible, ring, watch, ENTIRE WALLET, PURSE, etc, then YES do return it.

Have Fun!!

I'll tell you a hundred bucks is cheap advertising! Not only will you keep that costumer for life but word will get around and you could generate alot of new costumers with your honesty! Just another wrinkle to think about::angel: :p  :p

Lawns and Mower,
I think you would be doing right by asking,at least if some1 lies its on them and you want lose any sleep over it, and you never know that might be some1 grocery money.I found in a bathroom last year at a citgo little over three hundred dollars, was just laying in floor, i'm not to going lie 1st picked it up seen how much stuck it in my pocket but as i walked out bathroom door thought better of it, so i went to counter and asked lady if any1 had lost it course she said yeah so i gave it to her and walk out door,if she lied then what comes around goes around way i see it

If there's any question in your mind as to wheather you should keep it or not, donate it to your favorite charity. You can deduct it on your taxes and you wont feel guilty about it. If it was in a wallet or at a residence, that would be different. But as it stands you would have hard time finding the owner.

Hmmm. Since it's a commercial site, I'd ask one time at the receptionists desk if someone reported losing money (don't mention amount), if she says no, I'd keep it with no regrets.

I'd say its your lucky day. That blew in from somewhere unknown.
If it looked like this then its mine.

I lost a $100 bill in the mall one time. I went back to a shop where I bought some coffee and asked the young girl there if anyone had found a $100 dollar bill. She said that she had found one and gave it back to me, I bet I've bought $200 worth of coffee there since. Like someone said, cheap advertisment, plus I really thought what a nice person she was. She could have kept it and never said a word, but she had been brought up well. I hope that if presented the same situation I would try to find the owner. This may be money they need for medicine.

i woiuld have kept it but...

since you even asked the question you probably wont feel right keeping it, so i would say you should try to find who lost it. i am impressed with your honestly perhaps i should look to the angel on the shoulder more often:)

I found 60 to 80 dollars on the ground once at some public place and didnt know what to do with the money. Then i saw some guy looking for it and made him guess how much he lost. It was nice to see the guy have the money back and he was very happy about it. So I agree with the others, ask the front desk if anyone lost any money and in a month just keep it.

The guy that hired you slipped it there to see if you were an honest businessman? Just a thought. What if they were TESTING your honesty? I would ask if anyone has claimed to have lost any money. As others have stated I wouldn't give a $ amount either. If no one CLAIMS it, I'd go out on the TOWN for a night.

Good Luck,

I'd give it to the office, letting them know I found it in the bushes outside. Their property, their money, IMO. It's only $100 and it's not like it's going to change your life...

If you are feeling any guilt .... Then do what you need to do
to clear your own mind.

Your mind is what's important. I am thinking... that it's own your mind or else you would not have posted it?

Do what will makeYOU happy.

Last year I found a check make out to "cash" in the amount of $463. I called the owner and shredded it while we talked on the phone. My son also found a $20 , in a ditch, while I was spaying weeds.

My son found $130 last week in my store and gave it to me. I sealed it in an envelope and waited to see if anyone claimed it. Several hours later someone called and asked if anyone had found any money. He gave me about the right amount so I told him yes. When he came in to claim it he was an Airman Basic. Sure was glad to have it returned. Who do you think he will be a customer of now? In your case Be A GOOD OLE SOUTHERN BOY put it in an envelope, seal it up and report the money to the place of business( don't tell them how much) and see if anyone reports it. After an amount of time go back in to the business and see the boss and BOTH of you decide what CHARITY to donate it to. You've accomplished everything that way. 1 Clear conscious 2. Given oportunity to rightful owner 3 Cemented relationship with business owner 4. Helped out charity. 5 You will feel better. If you wanted the money you would not have asked the question.

Don't violate your conscience.

My daughter used to work at the mall. It was before Christmas. She found a bank envelope that had $500 dollars in it! There was no name on it and there was no one around. She turned it in to the manager. A woman came in and described the envelope and the amount. She got her money back. She looked up my daughter and thanked her. She thought that no one would turn it in. It was all that she had to spend on Christmas and she had children. Merry Christmas kiddies!!! :)

hey mow ed that isn't really you on that $100.00 dollar bill is it:)
Wow are you guys not thinking about the possibilities on this situation. Here is what you do call a local small paper and tell them that you are a local lawn care contractor that has found a $100.00 dollar bill blowing around the vacinity of, give a accurate address and tell them you felt that you should let everyone know and give the owner a chance to reclaim his money. At that moment you have become the most honest trustworthy contractor in your town. And will probably get a write up on it in the paper with a photo. Then watch the contracts come rolling in. Now thats what I call advertising to thousands and for only a hundred dollars. Try it!!!!!!:blob4:

I found a billfold with $60 in it a few years ago. The wallet contained a few pictures and nothing else. I stood around where it was dropped for about 10 minutes hoping the owner would come back. I noticed someone looking around the grounds like they lost something. I went over to that fellow and asked him whats going on? He told me that he lost his wallet. I asked him what color it was. He identified it correctly. I returned his wallet and he gave me the $60 that was in it.

One other time when younger I found a wallet and was looking around for the owner. Somebody came by and saw me standing there with the wallet and claimed the wallet. He then identified the wallet. When he opened it, he said that there was $20 in it not $10. I ended up giving him $10!

Throughout the fall my worker and I discovered what totaled to be $191. It was over three different trips to one yard and one cut on the yard across the street. The first week my worker went down a hill to blow the leaves up and found $20 then called me over I found $40 more (gave it to him) he continued looking around and found another $40. I told the homeowner that we had found some $ in the yard and asked if she had lost any, she said "no" I then asked her to check with her neighbours during the week. The following week we returned no neighbours reported any money missing. We found a little more last week then the third week we cut the neighbours yard and found a little more. After 3 weeks of none of her neighbours claiming to have lost any money she said go out and spend it. so we did.

Definately try to find the rightful owner, but if you cant then it is yours.

Quote by Mowman: "The guy that hired you slipped it there to see if you were an honest businessman?"

This couldn't be possible since I normally mulch this account in April, but have gotten a head start this year on mulching. These people don't have any reason to question my honesty. Been working for them for 10 years and we go to the same church. I'll ask the office manager if anyone has lost money and if it's not claimed in a month then I'll contribute the $$$$ to our church's building fund in honor of SCRAPER.

My wife bought a walet last year for Christmas. She got it home and there was a $100.00 dollar bill in side! She reasoned that someone got it as a gift from "Uncle George" and returned it- but did not look inside it.

My suggestion? Cruse by all the fine Dept. stores and look in all the walets for similar opportunities.

Around here the law is to report it to the police. You can hold the money in an escrow account or turn it over to the police. If no claim in a year you keep it. I turned in an expensive watch once and got it back a year later.

I once read a newspaper article about a guy who made good money taking regular walks around the perimeters of mall parking lots, especially the downwind side. :)

Oh come on... it's only illegal & morally wrong ( the two are separite and different) if you know where the $100.00 dollar bill came from. Wind, time and a host of other factors make this situation completely obscure. Enjoy the 'found $$$'.

The wife and I were driving one time and I noticed something next to the curb between a bank and a Git-N-Go so I pulled over. It was a $100 bill. The wife was amazed that I even saw it, but because I thought that it may mean alot to some one I went into the bank and told a teller that we had found some money-but didn't say how much(keeping the honest honest) and left my name and number in case some one came back looking for it. Waited for about a month no one called....to make a long story short we spent the money. But we did tell some one we found it and we slept great.

If you do the right thing you will not regret it. If you feel bad about what you are doing maybe you should try a different route. It's only a $100 to you, but may be much bigger to someone less fortunate.

Most less fortunate people aren't wandering around with $100's in their wallet.

i would not even consider such a thing. it's not mine, and i'm not gonna take it. I would tell a clerk about it and if they take it for themselves i will still sleep ok and if it don't bother their consceince that's not my problem.
maybe i'm one of those less fortunate people cause right now and usually all i have in my wallet is some pics of my equipment:D and maybe a five and a one... so don't bother robbing me.. ps when grandma gave me my new wallet for xmas, it did come with a starter kit  :D

I wish my dog had a conscience like you guys... someone slipped an envelope under my door with $150.00 in it for me for some work I did. Yup... she found it and ate it! If she didn't eat the whole bill, she only left one half with one serial number on it - so I couldn't even get the bills replaced.
