I am giving an estimate today for a local charter school for mowing........well basically all landscape maintenance. The guy that I met with was telling me that if we get the winning bid that they wouldn't want any of the work done until school lets out for the day 3:30 pm. I understand his concern for the safety of the kids and the noise and all but, trying to schedule that into when they want it done would be kind of tough. Have any of you guys ever had a situation like this? If you have what do you do?

I just mow after 3:30! Its not a huge deal to me unless it cant be done before dark. If you think about it, thats really not a unrealistic request. If you tell them that you are unable to abide- im sure they will find someone that doesn't have a problem with cutting after 3:30.

I'm with the general consensus, most contract-based jobs are like this anyway,
they want things on their terms and either bend over and take it or they find
someone else.

Probably the one reason I don't have much luck with contracts,
but as a solo the interaction between owner and customer is
entirely different than for a larger company, too.

Your choice, I guess.

This is the correct answer. You don't want to be there during school hours, unless it's a large complex where you can be on whatever area of turf isn't being used.

We do a district with the Senior High on a Tuesday, we do all the playing fields, then work our way towards the school building. Once we get up around the school, it's late enough in the day where school is out, and all the teams are practicing on the fields.

The other 3 elementary schools and one middle school are all done on a Saturday, or part of a Sunday if needed.

I do 2 charter schools this way. I'm there 20 minutes after the last bell. I also have a day care I do when all the kids leave after 6 p.m. The only time I have a problem is when it starts getting darker (time change). Then if needed, I work on Saturday to get it done. If you like the money you will adjust your schedule.
