What did everyone mow at this yr. I stayed consistent at 3.25" sometimes 3.5". Next year I'm thinking the range will be 3.75"-4". Less watering, Less disease. Overall better appearance. I'd like to hear some thoughts.

WOW werid thread!!!!

been cutting grass for 30 + years. YOU dont dictate what hight to cut at, the type of turff and over ground type does.

I have one customer that I cut at least 3 different settings. And still I adjust them to current weather conditions due to dry.wet soil. Back yard Bahia 3.25" Side yard St aug/Bahia mix 3.5" Front yard St. Aug 4"-4.25" Front yard ditch 4.5".
But I will admit I never go below 3.25" for Bahia and 4" for St. Augustine.
And yes sometimes I need to blend in the transition areas with the line trimmer.

For what? Moving a pin from one setting to another because they are either different turf types or situations? I could see more charge if they added a bunch of stuff to the landscape but not for just simply changing deck height.

2.5 to 4.5 for me. And yes one lawn that gets different heights because it has Flortam, Common Bermuda, and Argentine Bahia.

2-4 inches, depending on turf, and what the customer likes.

like someone else said, you dont dictate the height, the property does.
in my hood, i cut all but one at 3.5. the one i dont i cut at 3 but it comes out looking great.
in my other hood i do, i HAVE to cut most at 4. anything less will get scalped. i actually cut one at 4.25. i could do 4, but 4.25 looks healthier.

I CANT STAND people that cut below a healthy cutting height.

depends on what kind of turf it is...different grass has different mowing height.

Well, hate to tell you this, but 3" is kinda unhealthy. That is if they're all St aug.

most of my yards were at 3.75" - 4.00" next year im thinking of the 3.25" - 3.50" range (this is for more field grass mowing heights btw)

i know it is. I started them at 3.5 and they wanted it shorter. i tried 3.25 which i thought was perfect but they still wanted it a little shorter. i told them that its not that good for the turf, but thats what they want......

wiseguys ,
1 cut 2.75''
2 cut until may 10 at 3''
may 10 through june 1 at 3.25''
june1 through june 20 at 3.5''
june 20 through september 1 at 4-5''
sept 1 - oct. 1 3.5-3.75''
oct. 1 -nov. 1 3.25-3.5''
last cut 2.75''

it may be different depending on rain and disease. basically when you get disease you should bump the height up. and getting towards summer you should bump the height up, obvious reasons. the taller the grass the greener it looks, based solely because your seeing more pigment.

I cut 3" here in MN most of the season until the last cut which is 2.5".
Not sure how you northern LCO's are getting away wit cutting kbg/fescue/rye at 4" or more tall. That would just look horribly unkept. I agree that it would be very healthy for the grass, but all but one of my customers would revolt if I left lawns that long.

No stranger than I find the weekly cut threads.

Two guys in town kept their lawns at 4". They were really lush. It choked out all of the weeds. But they had to mow their lawns every day in the spring. Then every 2-3 days. Any more than that and it would have been a hay field. They were bluegrass & fescue lawns.
They were two old retired farmers with nothing better to do with their time. But their lawns looked really great.

I cut most Burmuda at 2-3/4 to 3. Bahia I start as low as the mower will go (2-1/2) and work it up as the season goes on. Bahia is a weed here and is greatly hated by those who have it.

I usually cut between 3 and 3.5 but mainly 3.5 because I hate adjusting my deck
