I have read the posts on this forum about the timing and how horrible it is to start a new application only business. Then on the other hand I have read how many of you are purchasing new equipment and many can purchase with cash. So it would seem that the grass is not as green as it once was, yet it is not dead either. I have experience in the business world and a close contact that has been an applicator and would be certified as the applicator. I understand that pricing of fert is way up and that the economy has people spending less. One of the major draw backs to entering a market is that the market is already saturated which it looks to be in my area of northern Alabama. If starting up PT and building with the mind set of extra cash for vacation and Christmas would not it work? Already have 3 res and 1 com account if choose to start. Will not count on any "friends or close contacts" to start using us just because. Thoughts? Would love to hear from North AL fellows like Needz and others like Americanlawn (it looks by the pics that you know what your doing) :help:

I started part time and eventually it became full time. Now it is full time + part timer. Not the best time to start with the economy like you said but with only doing it as additional income, you should be fine. Warning: If you do quality work and are competitively priced, it will become a full time gig....or you will have to draw the line and say no more. I guess what I'm trying to say is eventually you will have a decision to make. I did. I left the FD after 9+ yrs. Good Luck

I started part time one day a week after putting in a 40+ hour week for an unappreciative employer. This was just to feel out my market and see if this would fly. If it did not fly, that would mean I have cash money and the satisfaction of doing very high quality work, while keeping my job. Well, things went well enough that I let go of my employer 3 months after starting. I remember the words of Chris Rock on work. A job is an acronym for...........................
JUST
OVER
BROKE
Combine not being paid what I am worth and poor working conditions, you can see why I bear hostility towards fascist, slavedriver employers.

Never a bad time to start....so long as you are counting on it being a side thing. I wouldn't quit my day job right now. Fert and squirt isn't as lucrative as it was 10, or even 5 years ago, but it can still be a good business.
