I am hoping some might be able to help me with fixing my echo hc-150 trimmer. Here's my problem. ( I bought it in april 08')
The end of last week my trimmer seemed to be bogging down some, wasn't running a well as it should be. I brought it back to my yard and opened up the ait filter and took apart the carb to blow it out. I thought something might be clogging it. Resembled everything and when I went to start it I got ablsolutelty nothing. So I took the carb apart again and when I did I noticed gas was going into the enigine so this time I also took the spark plug out and blew the enging out also to dry up all the gas. When I reassembled everything it did the same exact thing. I do have a spark so now I am clueless.
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Thanks Jay

Hi, assuming the on/off switch is ON, then you might have pinched the low tension wire somewhere along the line causing it to earth out.
As for your first problem, do you have a spark arrestor in the exhaust? If so, remove it.
Good luck, Phil

I don't believe I pinched the tension wire but I wil be check in the morning and as far as the spark arrestor. I am guessing it is still there because I never removed it before. Not sure what that is exactly but I will try and find out. Thank you for your advice.

The spark arrestor is a little screen in the exhaust that often restricts air-flow.
One other thing I would look into that is not carb related. I have heard/read that the blades on the HC-150 are prone to friction problems, make sure they are well lubricated, and check the tensioner.

Thanks...I do lubricate them before every use with at least a spray of WD-40 , white lightning

I know you have a lot of experience on these your post are right on. I find it interesting that everybody tries to blow the carb out. It would seem like that would not be good on these units since they got those diaphrams in there that are pretty thin. Any comment on that.

I figure some of us ol' boys on here have an almost sixth sense when it comes to machines.
You're right about blowing out carbs, you have to be careful.
Too easy to do damage. A complete blockage will give you a dry plug and cylinder, if it's slightly wet then you should have some fuel getting through.
You have to treat each one differently.
My first checks
Do I have a good spark?
Is the plug wet?
Have I got top-end compression?
Is it flooded?
.
All checks done with air filter removed.
Good luck, Phil

Hi Natural Impressions,
I know that I am a little late jumping in here on this one, but do you still have a problem?
If so, update me and I will give it a shot.

make sure your gas cap is venting. I know this sounds dumb but, I have fixed several small engines by cleaning the gas cap vent. I always look for the easiest thing first.
