How does that work? Is it electric to thread it on the drum, or???

I saw a few, but didn't think they were worth it. I might cobble one together sometime, just to say I did.

Never have, seems unnecessary and maybe more trouble than it's worth.

I am not qualified to answer or concur.

the 300 foot rolls lay horizontal on a turntable and it reels out as we pull it in..
we also put the multi conductor on the top of the hub and pull it in with the mainline at the same time no one standing there spinning it

The over-taping of poly pipe made it a non-issue. With breakaway taping, it's a possibility. Since it can take two guys to deal with the roll of pipe, there is a labor savings.

I have pulled pipe for 8 years and used this device for 2 years it really pushes production along when someone isnt standing there spinning pipe for 3 - 4 hours. I used it on one particular job that had 6000 feet of 1 inch and 1 1/4 pipe and it really shined...

The draw back would be the set up and moving it around for each pull.

Since it can take two guys to deal with the roll of pipe, there is a labor savings.we slit the tape but do not pull it off throw it on the reel and go. As we back up over the pull to hide it we then grab the grip and wrap it around the handle on the reel and tow it along behind the cable plow to the next pull... I has never failed us. It is a proven tool that is not replaceable in our organization. That person now becomes part of direct production of the product....

That is exactly what I did if you looked at it you would say, " thats a jalopy" but my guys say it is the best thing since Blazing saddles..because they have extra help digging holes.

No. I do believe I disqualified myself as doing so.

The lead man does all the pulling. His right hand man handles the pipe. The machine constantly moves from pull to pull and the right hand man knows not to delay the machine or keep the lead man idol. He is known as an "anchor" if he does so.

Hey if it works for you that's great. Guess I'de need to see it in action.

What brands of poly are you using? Some brands went nuts on the taping. You couldn't just cut tape and lay the roll down and have it unwind.

If you can stay ahead of 3 guys digging and assembling I guess it does work.

We normally bring three guys because I normally have a full day of bidding or doing service calls after I get the guys started... I do see a value to just using 2 guys if they are the right 2...I dont necessarily see a service in camping out at the clients house though....I would think in Detroit you would have to be lean...Thats why I dont work there...

We really don't do as many installs as others on this site.....the market is too competitive here. No money in installs. Service is our forte (did I get lucky?)

Synergey (omg) and effiency (OMG) is where it's at with installs.

You know, like one man trying to carry a piece of plywood. Put another man with him and the production more than doubles. Put a third there and production falls. SYNERGEY!!!! (WTF- why no button!!!!)

We are not carrying plywood. Lets see plumbing, wiring, pulling pipe, digging valves, Hanging rainsensor, there is a factor to someone looking out at there yard and seeing it happen right before there eyes,, We travel sometimes 35 miles { which is usually 4o minutes} and if we can save one trip in this kind of Rural market it makes sense to us to get in and get out...All my guys get crosstrained in this company..Mowing fertilizing landscaping irrigation. In a little market you have to be diversified and educated in all areas to survive.

lets see you rig one up that is more compact,,,we made one out of all steel that stood up and accepted 2 rolls of pipe, it had pull out handles and wheelbarrow tires. the first time we used it it kinked the pipe and fell over ARGH

Eddie - didn't you post about using a reel before? Or am I thinking of someone else?

I never used one, never realized there was one when I was doing installs. Thought about making one though.

I always thought it would be cool to have one like the spools at the hardware store. When you buy bulk wire at a certain length and the spool "accordions" so that the wire can be put on and then snaps back to regular size therefore holding the wire. I saw a large one at an electrical supply store that could take poly, it was pricey.

you could weld a spindle on top of the beemerThe beemer is only used for personel use, after driving work trucks all day long and living out of'em, It feels good to drive something a little more comfy 6 speed 300 hp

For those of you who install poly, got a link to a poly reel with wire spool holder. After shipping, under $400
