It something what tree roots can do. I had client this spring that had two zones not working, found problem and they were choked in multiple places by oak trees and ended up pulling all new line.

finding it is like finding a needle in a haystack start at one head and work to the closest tree

I don't get too many oak tree root troubles. Maples are my sworn enemy.

Yeah, that root might do the trick.

Might think about conduit with that crappy poly.

Do you mean sdr 26 or schedule 40

sdr 26? Whats that? Schedule should be the only legal PVC made. Class is for parade floats.

I wonder what their using all those semi- loads of poly and sdr 26 for I dont profess to know your soil conditions, but in Michigan sandy soil is what we see most of the time....Poly is just fine and fast too!

I feel your pain,,,I do a pvc work when it is specified ( which is only frequent on some commercial jobs...Buy the time you have glued three or 4 Joints together I have already pulled in 200 feet. It must be all technique.... Our fastest time from start to finish is 1.3 hours per head

Pulling only works in large runs, open area. Small yard, gotta trench or youure wastin time.

seems to be a mess then when its all done...We take tarps and put all the soil back in the hole when were done and the lawn looks as good as before we started...I really hate trenching peoples yards

again, the small, existing yards can sit around and wait for the grass to grow rather than me and the crew being on site for another 8 hours of labor digging holes and making poly connections. poly in open trench= quick cake.

We cut the grass before trenching, trench, replace grass.
We can't plow poly even if we wanted.

We don't do poly, we're PVC, and we just wail away. The only exception is freshly-laid sod - customer has 4 options: have us lift & replace, do it themsleves, let us plow right on through, or wait until it's rooted. I charge mucho extra for lift & replace.

What is with that anyway? Why do people lay sod then call for a sprinkler system?
Cart, meet horse.

The usual procedure: buy/build a house, sod it, then have irrigation installed, then add a fence (heads must be moved/added, and usually some piping repaired), then have a pool put in. First thing pool contractor does is take fence down, then drives all over sod and system, pulls system out of backyard...
My other favorite is "I just fertilized and my system won't come on".

My answer to that one - "go get a hose".
