I was told by someone that it will kill the plants this time of year because they cant heal themselves where they have been cut. Is this true?

I've never had any problems pruning shrubs this time of year.

The only thing I worry about is some of the deciduous spring bloomers. Hard to identify instantly without the leaves on them. Trim them now, and they won't have enough old growth to bloom next spring.

I definitively don't have problems with ever-greens.

Here in TX the temperatures are still pretty nice. It shouldn't hurt anything.

No problems here. Like White Gardens said you don't want to cut the new buds off of plants or they won't flower the next year. In my area you want to watch out for azaleas and rhododendrons for instance.

Go for it. Should be fine, but don't trim any spring flowering shrubs or the blooms next year will be reduced.
