View Full Version : New customer, quickest blowout

Was doing blowout at a house. Neighbor pops over and asks "how much"? How many zones, sez I. "Three zones". All the while I'm thinking of that thread here the other day.
Not feeling cranky nor in a hurry, I tell him $40 cash, right now. Deal.
Houses were mirror images, small properties with side-by-side driveways. Blowout ports not even 35 feet apart. Did not even need to move the truck. And, he had a hose bibb to blow out thru. Water off by new customer. Hookup hose, blowout all three zones at same time. Customer fills in his address info on new work order. Give new customer biz card. Take cash. Remove and retract hose. Drive away. Five minutes extra.

Cool beans. Wish they were all that simple.

Yeah, this one was a no-brainer. No phone calls, no scheduling/routing. Lowest "overhead"!
Forty was higher than the piker/lowballers, but lower than usual minimum. It was win-win for both. No scheduling on either side needed.
Next year, he gets regular rate whatever that may be at that time. Maybe tell him it will be a minor discount if he and the neighbor both get done at same time again.

So what did you charge the scheduled customer?

I think they had pre-paid in early 2008, for Spring start-up, and Fall blow-out. Not positive, somewhere in the $95 to $125 range for both. They had 6 zones IIRC.

Sounds like the neighbor got a deal. You should have charged the same. :hammerhead:
I haven't charged less than 50.00 in more than 10 years. No matter the size.

Why? Did I cause a rift in the space-time continuum?

Ditto.... Especially if he was a senior.....Report that cash now! Obama needs to know in order to help you disperse it according to his grand scheme.

No rift in the time-space continuum... just the issue of what do you tell your original customer when he finds out that he pays more than his neighbor?
Whenever I get approached by a neighbor, I charge the exact same price as I'm charging the current customer. Anyone that tries to barter gets told that I can't charge a stranger less than I charge a good regular customer.

If you read everything you'd have noticed:
Two different sized systems.
First one paid for startup and blowout, earlier in year.

What time are you heading for the polls? I'm about to leave and then go to the gym to try and start my exercise program again.

I couldn't get near the place they were holding early voting, there was a huge turnout for over 2 weeks. Hoping that I can get in without wasting 1/2 a day waiting today and cast my vote. Still have to decide who to vote against...

I still have time to drive over to my old location, and vote twice :) Easy going this time, no waiting, and the poll worker didn't even check my new registration.
