I've got an 07 Megacab 2500 4x4 with the Hemi... I usually get around 10 mpg pulling my 18' trailer around town. Best I've ever seen is 15.5 mpg on the hiway.

They advertise 20 mpg highway on the 1500 series. GM achieves 19 rated highway mpg with their 5.3 in the silverado/sierra series.
Best I've ever seen highway in an '08 dodge reg cab shortbed 4x4 1500 with the new and improved 4.7 and 3.55 rear was just over 17mpg---it was rated at 19mpg.
Very few owners will see a solid 20mpg on the highway. You are just as likely to achieve 20mpg in a mid-nineties chevy with a 5.7 as you are in a 2009 dodge with the 5.7---seems like we are making no real progress lately in the fuel economy department. I've seen new compact cars advertised getting 30-34 mpg when cars from the early nineties were already achieving this on longer wheelbases.

isn't that because the Dodge 1500's have the cylinder shutdown technology.....while the 2500's do not......

That's right to the best of my knowledge---MDS is not available in the 2500's and up. Also the 1500's are a lot lighter than the heavy duty trucks.

we have a 1500 ram with a hemi with mds and see 20 on the highway. and our 08 chevy silverado double cab with the cylinder shutoff gets 15 in town and 20 on a good day on the highway. just buy a frickin dually with a 5.9 cummins and ride then you will be all good haha!

I have a Ford F150 with the 4.6 V8. I've gotten 21mpg (highway only at 70mph). Unloaded mixed driving 16-17mpg. Pulling my 7x14 enclosed loaded down I get 10mpg (don't go over 60mph). With the enclosed I've never got less than 10 or more than 11.
