Did a little errosion job today. Homeowner was worried about the creek washing out the bank and causing the trees to fall.

Hauled in some boulders to protect the bank of the creek in the sharp turn.

You didn't know that Chris recenty purchased that Bobcat 864. Its all part of his new business plan, he's got Bobcat Ron moving south to run it full time, Ron would only come down if it had a 4n1 bucket.

thanks! It was nice having all the small rock in the creeks to fill in the gaps between the big boulders. I thought it looked good.

todays new project.

Dredging out this pond on a golf course.

Today we focused on draining the water down, getting the valve unblocked and ditching the water to the dam so the muck can dry.

Gonna get the Liebherr Long reach back for this job. We almost lost a machine about 12 years ago when this pond swallowed it up. Took a tandem wrecker (50 ton)?? a 580 backhoe and a Cat D6 dozer to pull the machine out... it was bad... really bad.

I just dont see how you make it worthwild? just no market for it around here that I can see.

get paid to clear it, paid to burn it, then paid to bury it.

win, win situation for me.

I am with Kepple. We have BIG market for green waste. Burning and burying is a waste of money in Washington.

They used to grind at the dump in Durham until the pile caught on fire and wouldn't stop burning for a month...kinda funny since the FD training center is right across the street and the city waste water treatment plant is there too so it actually smelled a little better for a while.

It caught fire because they didn't do anything with the ground product and just piled it up and let it sit. When the piles are large enough and sit long enough they will generate enough heat to self ignite. It is very tough to get the fire out. You have to dig through he like while the whole time spraying it down with large amounts of water. We don't let our material sit that long to get that hot. Our wood we leave in log form or whatever form it brought to us in, chunks, logs, pieces... Whatever and then process and grind it when we get an order in for mulch.

An excavator can take the tree down in one piece. Cut up only what is needed for trucking.
No stump grinding, remove the stump.
Faster, less mess and he can fix the driveway when he is done.

Whats faster to clear land, a tree guy with chain saw or an excavator? No climbing, no rigging, just knock it down.

Even cutting the trees up is faster when you have a machine that pick up, sort, or carry the tree where ever you want it.

Those mil spec dump trucks do some amazing things, I drove one doing 30-40 loads a day thru a marsh (more like a swamp) for about 3 weeks. Did a ton of other little jobs with them, but that was the biggest. Best drive was down Rt 1 from Madison to Old Saybrook in CT. You should like it a lot.

I operate for a company who specializes in wetlands and marsh reconstruction, so I am very familiar with your type of work, it should work awsome.

A good friend of ours has a landscape supply yard and we have a stack of card in his office on the board. He gets so many different people in everyday than needs things done and refers them to us.

Just happened to have the machine about 3 miles down the road. yes it was a simple job but i can do simple jobs to.

Homeowner had a tree in his driveway he wanted gone so he could move his carport around.

A tree company could have taken it down cheaper Im sure but he wanted the stump gone, hole filled and some stone to dress it up.

if a tree company came and did it they'd cut the tree off then grind the stump and everyone knows the mess that makes and it will never compact right.

I yanked it out, filled and compacted it with dirt and top dressed it with stone.... wala no tree was ever there.

Nice flat work. Do you know if they did the curb by hand or with form to make the curb? We have guy here that we use once in while - they have a little slip machine - no forms. Another guy here forms, pours and uses a small 2x4 to make the curb which looks like alot of work and they pour it pretty dry to make it work.

it was all done by hand. same here the guy used a short 2x4 to get the curb all roughed in then the hand finished it with the tools.

less than a day, usually around 7 hrs with 2 guys. I run the excavator, uncle drive the truck and chainsaws. I saw some too but usually its all I can do to get enough trees down and a load of brush ready for when he returns.

on average we have about 6 loads of brush from each lot and a trailer load of pulp wood.

I kid you not they houses are like 3-4' from the property line in some cases.

damn if I would have a 3500sq ft house and be 6-8' away from my neighbor.

Tell me about the mud pit.... Do you guys do that often? Won't it take forever to dry out? Will that cause problems in the future with settling or 'pumping' ground??

yeah its the best way to get rid of it. you can't just put 2000 yards of mud anywhere. it will settle some, and yes it will be wet for a while. but come mid summer they will be able to grade that into a nice new hill for the golf course

Long reaches are like getting on a completely different machine. Same controls and movements but they are nothing like running a regular excavator. you have to be very smooth on the controls or you will have that thing rocking like a ship at sea. No need to get in a hurry either. The sticks real jerky and its really hard to be smooth. Needless to say you dont need to attempt to load a dump truck the first go if you've never been on one as you'll smash the truck regaurdless of how good you thing you are.

you'll be able to walk on it in a month. I'd be able to get on it with a mini and mud mats in say 3 months and get shaped up nice. by fall you'll be grading it out with tractors

I bought a brand spanking new Cat 28" bucket and broke a tooth on day one on a log. Few hours later I noticed another tooth was broke and took the bolt out of it and it fell in half. Doing a dredging job in a creek a bolt came out of one of the other teeth. Thank god the Cat buckets have a lifetime warranty on their teeth, went through two in a week of owning the bucket.

never broke one before. although I've ripped the whole tooth, shank and tore the bottom of the bucket out before on the old daewoo:waving:

Not sure, salesman told me they have a lifetime warranty and I took them to the exchange manager which asked me how many hours were on the teeth and asked for the old teeth back and I had new ones in my hand in a matter of about 3 minutes.

ETA: I've never broke one either even with digging rock before except when I got this bucket. I think the teeth that came on it were lemons, although their doing fine right now.

Oh cool,
Would you ever think of getting one?
Takeuchi make the tcr50 tracked carrier, I was looking at them the last day, but for some reason they're not on the Takeuchi US website, just the UK and Ireland one. Weird huh? Also the US one has wheeled loaders but the UK and Ireland one dosen't so mabey thats just the choice for that area. (damn I really wanted to take a look at one of them wheel loaders!)

Chris, have you ever used the rubber anti-seep collars? They look like they might be a PITA to install.

Not sure about the rubber ones but I've used the metal ones on metal and aluminum pipe. I hate them with a passion.

I just shovel out some dirt under the plastic pipe and dump some concrete around it to form a anti seep collar. same with concrete I pour it half way up the pipe.

I like the plastic pipe because it has all the groves and if you pack it real good I've never had a problem with one leaking

oh yeah. Do alot of work for a pond/ lake managent company they manage like 3000+ ponds and lakes.

Most are stormwater pond for shopping centers, subdivision ect. Most common things I do are dredging out sediment. fixing leaking overflows and mowing the brush down around them

I'm looking at going in that direction. I'm using my military college benefits to go to school for stormwater inspection and design. Going to branch away from the landscaping in the future and move towards more site developement and erosion control. I love watching the projects y'all do.

dont get me started with the silt fence. that the stupidest thing putting up silt fence in the woods before you even clear it. Look how much I've whipped out taking down some of those big pines.

Going to be a hell of rain for that silt to run up some of them hills to get to that silt fence. We usually do wait until we've done all clearing before we put silt fence up.

I had hauled a lot of fill dirt back up in there as well as a few loads from MM quarry. But I have a F 750. It was still real tight in there. Hard place to do some big work. who's the builder,do you know?

Third pic would make a nice background if i was into volvos. If i squint real hard they almost look the right color  How many loads did it take to haul all the slash out with your quad? I bet a 40-50 yard end dump sounded real good about the time you were done. I don't know if its right or not, but here we can get away with no silt fence until we're done clearing as long as any excavation work done before the silt fence is installed is under an acre total. Couple cans of marking paint would have saved them the trouble of the tree protection area signs too. Not much you can do for city people i guess. ;)

its going to be around 40 loads of stumps and brush when its all said and done. i dont ask about the silt fence or tree protection the builder said he'd take care of that and he'll be taking care of putting it all back up after I knocked it all down this week lol

So, it's gonna be one of THOSE houses. You might have to get out and shovel a time or two.
