I can see it now. Builder walks over to Chris and says " It's missing a few corners." Chris replies, "What are you complaining about, i'm not charging you for the extra overdig. Besides, it'll be easier to form up this way." Job well done i say.

oh let me tell you about sundays little adventure.

First off sunday is my day to do what I like to do, only day of the week I usually can.

but no mr Builder is going to be gone all this week and had the plans and the layout for the basement.

needless to say I had to go layout the house with him yesterday...

on a side note it rained 3" saturday night...

sooooo I'm knee deep to a horses a$$ in red sticky mud trying to lay this house out and nothing is lining up. ( keep in mind the surveyor layed it out and took some of the corners off but I have no ideas which ones) 45 minutes later I start pulling measurements and come to find out Mr builder ran over a couple stakes while playing on his lil backhoe saturday. then it rained and mud covered them up. Chris not happy now.....

but after some choice words said and a few whoop de dooo's in the mud I had an outline painted out.

so if the house dont fit hes got a backhoe:weightlifter:

Sounds fun. I've been leasing a quarter section to a hunter from the gulf coast and spent my morning in a frog choker working out where to put some food plots. And it was running closer to snow than rain. Decided that it was time to go back to bed after that.

I know this is a hard question but how many yards you think is in that one big pile thats burning?

Time for another new windshield,
or just wait till something comes crashing through it like the last one

and the heating and cooling could have caused it to crack, not sure how close to the fire you were though

Damn near impossible to tell, but a real rough guess would be about 3000.. all depends on how dense it is, and of course how deep... Our pile is just greenwaste, not including all the tree debris and logs we have and is pretty dense... I have to get another shot of our yard before we grind it all up in the next week.

its nice, 3 axle dont raise so it really can wear some tires. the automatic ramps are nice but wont go down if your facing downhill and are hard to go up when the battery dies...

other then that its nice

the demo company was Jackson, think they're from up north (evidently they're worldwide) we had to sit through their 4 hour safety course 8-)
DH Griffin is doing the roadwork in Sanford though, pretty impressive on 421

The thing about that truck is it got out of the sandpit, I just about got my butt stuck, thank goodness I sprung for the locking diff because when I wasn't loaded it just spun and spun, probably my fault though not used to driving on sand...

trucks been real good for the price its worked wondefull. Should have another one on a big dirt moving job playing tag team on about 3K yards of dirt moving.

just had a few bugs that are showing, one was the bolt that connects the rod that engages the pto fell out and it wouldn't dump.

we tore the tailgate off, got to do a little fab work on that. I bent the headboard when it got suck loaded and pushed it out with the 210 and dozer haha. I just reached over with the bucket and pulled it back up straight, bent the top of the cab tho.

It gets the hell beat out of it. when it really breaks we'll take the tires off and sent it to the junkyard and get another one lol

Sounds like that will be a fun job. Funny 3k yards doesn't seem big to me anymore.

We had an old 6wd army truck very similar to yours at the school I went to, that would always drop the pin out of the clutch or PTO like that.

yeah these are dry pond. the riser box has a 6" low flow hole in the bottom. this way when a big storm comes and fills the pond it will slowly release the water into the creek instead of one massive wash of water.

mucking away is the worst job going in a machine and the lowest rung on the ladder over here, i went out on hire doing it for a week was so boring a constant stream of wagons and never ending pile. was so pleased to get done and get away.

chris with the mowers why the rotary arm type as opposed to the flail, we have both for our 6620 deere in 8' width but we use the rotary arm type only for grassland topping and then use the flail for the awful jobs with the crap hidden in the grass.

do you shear many of the shear bolts while mowing

yeah it can make for a long day but it was fine with me I like running the 210 plus I was having fun making avalanches with the stock pile.
as for the rotary mowers... their cheaper and it works for what we do.

Started loading bright and early yesterday morning, ended up loading out 162 trucks. figured around 2250 yards moved with 4 trucks on a 4 mile round trip haul. I was busy...

Pretty much got all the dirt in place to fill in the pond.

still have about loads of dirt left than needs to be removed before the model home can be built.

talked the owners into piping the creek and using the rest of the dirt to level off the back yards to all the house lots.

And you just pour concrete around the junctions to keep them water tight?

yes I'll grout around the pipes and then pour concrete in the bottom of the boxes so there is no standing water between the bottom of the box and the bottom of the pipe. I'll form up a little box around the box that has the sharp angled pipe going into it and pour a block of concrete around it so nothing funny happens.

And yes They have Deep pockets. They paid for these two subdivisons in cash so they have no probelms with doing things the way they need to be done.

Chris,
A couple of suggestions. Have your pipe with bell ends facing direction of work.
What we do is push pipe into bell end instead of the other way around. You then are not pushing dirt in to pipe and pipe fits together much better.

We also work from lower elevation up and face bell ends uphill. Then again push spigot end into bell not the other way around.

They also make all kinds of 22.5 or 45 or 90 degree fittings for N12 pipe that would make your connection to your structure correct.

The pipe should be bedded in something other than existing material like stone or sand but pipe that big wont move much. This customer is spending some money so the extra fine tuning wont cost much compared to the over all project.

It looks like you are using pipe lube so that makes it go much easier, you can buy that in a spray can instead of brushing it on, also easier.

We also buy our structures with the inverts all ready cut in them so no cutting the holes in on site.

Sorry Chris but I cant help myself I guess. One more important thing to do. You should be backfilling as you go for two very big reasons. One is that when you push the next stick of pipe on you don't move the pipe pushing it into the structure.

The most important reason is if you get a lot of rain tonight the pipe will lift out of trench and ruin all you work if the trench fills with water. I have seen 30" pipe come out of the ground, ruin the work and you have to start all over.

Well, you have to do what the boss says thats for sure. If we fill the structure up like that with concrete they would make me take it out. My work is mostly overseen by architect.

I agree with you that it isn't going to move anytime soon.

The thing you have going for you is the ground doesn't freeze as deep were you are, our freeze depth is 48".

Did you mortar the rim on?

I poured concrete in the bottom of the boxes to get it level with the bottom of the pipes, then use a non shrink grout on the inside to make it look good.

conseal then the lid, boss's exact words were " its not going to leap off" so nope the metal grate it just sitting on here.:hammerhead:

Leaving some room in the bottom of the structure is recommended because it catches the fines, silt or anything else that go into the structure instead of sending it down the pipe.

The rim should be mortared on because if it does move than the structure is open. It wont take much to move that rim if it gets hit buy a tractor of even some one brush hogging the field etc.

The extra time it takes is about 1/2 hour to do it.

The hydraulic cement was a good idea, that stuff gets hot and drys fast huh.

Here is one we did.

Here you can see that the structure had the inverts in from the manufacturer.

Also I assume you dumped the riprap on top of the dam and slung it down, did a nice job cleaning all the fines and limestone can't really see anything unless your hiding it with straw.

thanks yeah we took the minis and knotched it out so that the rock would sit level with the top of the bank. I just forgot to take a picture. then I hauled it all down there with the skid steer and drove down the edge and dumped it onto the fabric to keep it from making such a mess on the bank. did a few backwards wheelies tho :weightlifter:

Its some sort of roller system to help the bed dump. see how low the lift cylinders are? take one heck of alot of force to get a full load up in the air but that helps somehow.

That's the truth! There are a few places near me that have some really gummy clay....almost like marle or gumbo.....I will go to a sand pit, if my tracks are not already full of sand, and spin some cookies to get my tracks packed with sand before I go to those sites if its wet. It sure seems to help with clean out later on.

now heres a fun little project. Overflow pipe was in bad shape. water was flowing under the pipe instead of through the pipe. in some areas you could probably stand up under the pipe inside the damn it was that washed out!

engineers decided to excavate all the lose dirt from the front to solid ground, pour flowable fill (25 yards) then dig up and recompact the dirt around all the rest of the pipe

all was good till I poured the first 10 yards and then a random thunderstorm came up. 2 inches of rain in 30 minutes.... pond filled up in about 5 minutes. just long enough to build a dam and bust the spillway to save 2 days work from getting washed away.

is that retention pond supposed to have that much silt/slop in it or do/were you cleaning that out? it would seem in a heavy rain the drain couldn't exit the water as fast as the pond would fill up given the amount of fall from the upper end of those properties.

that little pond had way more than anyone thought. Im not sure how deep it was suppose to be but they wanted that sediment plume taken out in the head section. I priced taking out 35 yard and ended up taking out 50 as thats what it took to fill the hole I dug.

that being said they need about 500 more dug out but with no place to put it and no access but inbetween two houses and on plywood this is what its gonna have to be!

Around here the going rate is $135 a hour for a 20 ton hoe. $100-110 for a Dozer 20Klbs range and a quad runs about $70-75 a hour

So what about a mini ex(kubota 161),a trackloader,(takeuchi 140). I have been charging $75 per load on my 750(not hourly) and I adjust on distance and number of loads,$60 to $75 per hr on my B 26 and about the same on my other 2 tractors(grand L,L4400 used for bushhoggong, turf). snow removal is a different animal. If I'm doing a day job i'm charging $750 to $1000 per day depending on variables.(number of guys type of equipment, distance).

I can haul them both on the tag trailer for the dump truck. I would be way overloaded on the dually

It was enough lol.

its about 15 minutes from the shop so not far at all.

I plan on building a house out there later in life, right now i might have to settle for a trailer until i can save up some more.

I've never been in debit and not looking to get in over my head at 25 years old. My goal is to pay for everything at the time of purchase or not buy it at all ( minus the farm payment)

wants to clear out all the small trees and take down these 2 big oaks where a new addition will be going

had a tree guy come in and take the tops out due to the lack of room to fall these tree and the amount and weight hanging over the house.
