CAT and DEERE are just alike...the ass ends are just too heavy...

if you've only ever seen a CAT hoe in action then you really shouldn't say its the best out there, CASE bar none has the best backhoes on the market...i don't care if your a cat, deere, new holland, jcb, whatever fan, case invented the backhoe and it shows
Now I never said it was the best, I said it was the cats ass, as in nice, not the best. Thats the only backhoe I've ever really ran.. From what I've seen Case is by far the best backhoe out there, thats all I've seen for backhoes up here in Illinois...

Well I have seen the inside of the takeuchi enough this week:laugh:

I've bounced my jolly rear off enough this week in it already

All day monday I spent hauling stumps nad brush to the burn piles. Look at the size of those stumps.... only a takkie could do that:weightlifter:

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee145/Letsdig18/003-80.jpg

Then today I went over to the neighbors house and did some "clean up work" meaning I pushed all his "sh*t" into a big pile. My oh my look at the crap:dizzy:

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee145/Letsdig18/004-75.jpg

then I dug a little pond for him

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee145/Letsdig18/005-66.jpg

I look forwars to playing in a 12 acre swamp the rest of the week in the volvo now:drinkup:

Yeah thats the one, I only moved proably 250 -300 yards of dirt, I could have done it all with the takkie but I would have been there for about 5 hours, maybe a little less If I was steady at it.

I'm just digging a trench about 10' wide and 5' deep through the center to help drain the land. Dang beavers are killing all the mans timber.

That big job.... hurry up and wait, it may be two years before anything else happens. Like everything else, money is the problem.

Nice and cool this morning. I'm redigging about 1/2 mile of creek channel.

Hey you use what you have sometimes. Logs work good until one breaks and gets stuck in the tracks, then the track falls off when your 150' from shore. The one leg crawl back to shore is no fun in the mud.:dizzy:

holy shat chris!!!!! thats a crazy job!!!

can you imagine how big a problem that would become if you did get stuck out there?

i knew a guy that got a 200 long reach stuck a mile out in lake huron, it took a huge cable to get it out. big $$$$

you must eat your lucky charms for breakfast to get away with that.

To be honest its really not that bad, I could probably get away without using mats. there is a lot of rock out here, some of it is only 1' deep. Then when then when the rock stops, it can get nasty!

we'll shall see what day 2 brings, I think a 1/3 of the way done.

have you ever lost a mat or had to search for it in the mud?

Dirtman2007
02-19-2009, 10:13 PM
yeah when they get about 4' under the mud they become very hard to get out, you can feel them but the suction that is on the mat it more than the machine can pull.

I've only lost two, got the machine out but the two mats under it had to stay!
Remember this picture:dizzy:

Chris you're officially a nut job. That being said you can come operate for me any time you'd like.

If all that volvo does is play in the mud then why don't you get a mud undercarriage for it?

Also what are those mud mats made of? It looks it's just some timbers with steel rods to keep em together?

Nothing like being up sh$$ creek without you MAT:laugh::hammerhead:

I did notice that there are same spaces on the ends(mat), is that to drag them around if you didn't use them like you do with the bucket and thumb.Thats my guess:confused:

Interesting job, i would think having the dead logs around would be of some help to use ahead of the mat to set the mat on.The stumps would be a pain.

So where you started your dig(ditch) was it pretty flat not much drainage because it looks like the water is backing up pretty bad in your new ditch, but might be that you are still having more water running in faster then can get out?

The land owner needs to get the traps( gun, land mines:laugh:) set quick!!!!! His buddys will be back:rolleyes:

Do you have to retrack you way out at night or can you get off to the side to refuel at nights, or will the Volvo run on air:cool2: Don't bury it( the curse:laugh:):usflag:

The mud mats are made out of 8"x12" oak logs bolted together in 4 places. so all together they are 4' wide and 16' long

Not really you still have to pull that machine out with the boom as it will not move without doing so. those rubber tracks may actually hold a little better than the steel as they don't fill with mud "as" bad.

Hey Chris you ever see gators or snakes in those swamps or just turtles?

We don't have gators around here but we have tons of snakes. If a couple of them bit you, there's a 50/50 chance you would not make it back to the truck alive if you were alone. Hence why I don't like to get out of the machine if its during the summer!

I remember on a job a couple years ago, I flipped over a stump with the bucket and atleast 5 copperheads came flying out:dizzy:
I really don't like snakes either...

Found a bunch of Eels too.

well oneday I started to change the sprockets out on the skid steer as they had wore to the point where theey could start ripping the luggs out as they had a hooked wear shape to them. tracks still have plenty of life left in them. the sprockets were 1/32" too small so i had to take them back so they could spin then down a little.

I got a chance to pressure wash my Kitty. She needed it. All the snow and mud wasn't very nice to it.

So, Chris, how do you wash the Takkie?

might have been asked already but what is the purpose of having two such similar machines (the dae and the volv). Is it just so you can work in case one is broken down or to get the other unstuck? I'd think maybe you'd have one big FEL and one big excavator or something instead?

CAT powered

Because it's tough to have one machine doing 2 jobs that are 20 miles apart at the same time.

Correct, we've had all 4 excavtors on different jobs before. I may not run them all that week. say one job needs dry out before it can be graded or something... well i can work on another job an not have to move a machine around.

It's a long story but that pretty well sums it up.

well here's my plan, I piled it up so high as it's nice and green still. Well i dug the hole on the opposite side, knowing that the wind usually blows in the direction towards the pile. once I get the pit burning it should get hot and start drying out the pile better. then I can just roll the stuff right over and into the hole.

That's the plan but usually it never works out, I just go with the flow:laugh:

that's what I did to get out. it's hard to tell in the pic but once i put the tines down the rear of the tracks were like 1/2 down then, at the moment its so front heavy it's just got the ass end up in the air.

I took the volvo and scratched about 12" about from behind the machine and wiggled it out.

It's called sandy topsoil with a very HIGH water table, break through the roots and this is the result. it happens all the time, that takkie has been stuck over 100 times. it's no big deal, drag it out and carry on.

Might as well pose for a photo oportunity:laugh:

tell me about it, if I raised the boom up the front sank so far mud would have came in the door if i opened it. I had to push down hard to get the lift arms down enough to get out lol

So some more pics

You get used to it after awhile. I have been thinking about getting a small vac trailer for locating stuff. Vermeer makes a 100 gal unit, that looks like it would work well for me.

I will get some pics up on my site of our current job. Entire flood damaged neighborhood. We are replacing all the roof drains on all the homes, then regrading and seeding.

Today when I got home I tackled a lil project that has needed to be done for a while. I have a little pond at the house( well water hole) that is fed by a 4" pipe going to the creek.

Well water flowing through the pipe became less and less over time. So i took 30' of 1" PVC and rammed it up the 4" till it stopped. Then I took the shovel and dug down to the pipe. Yep this is why you should use glue in your joints.... damn ROOTS

I think I found the clogg

That does look pretty cool. My friend would have shat himself if he saw all those stone stacked up like that. If we are driving down the road and he see's a rock that he can pick up and carry,he has me stop. Yes he has some issues. He would dismantle that thing by hand in a matter of 45 min. Then he would carry those pieces out one by one. He makes me look tiny. I'm 6'1'' 230He's kinda like a sasquatch.

He's probably that Grass Man/Sasquach thing I keep seeing on the Discovery Channel from over in the N.E.

Haha! I don't think Sasquatch could even move some of those rocks!

8' long 2' thick and 4' wide.... that's a rock!

Very nice rocks, and that root ball, YUCK! Looks like the hair ball I pulled out of the sink trap after I shaved my winter coat off.

Since when did you have a combo bucket for the TL150?
