Very nice rocks, and that root ball, YUCK! Looks like the hair ball I pulled out of the sink trap after I shaved my winter coat off.

Since when did you have a combo bucket for the TL150?

the takkie has had that since the day we brought it home from takkieland with 7 hrs on her. I usually just use the big 1 yard flat bucket instead... it holds so much more than the 4 in 1. But I can grade like a MOFO with the combo bucket:laugh:

I got a vid, but I had it in my lap and was tracking around pulling trees and brush and I was worrying with the camera and swinging at the same time and made a booboo, so that video may never make it to Youtube. But Dad running the trackhoe will.. :cool2:

I swear, I couldnt find a place to mount/bolt or tie that thing, I'll figure something out next time, maybe..

I was wondering the same. Naturally the rock are Square like that in this part of the county. This was part of a old Mill dam. the rest has been washed downstream when the dam busted. I'm guessing a part of the water wheel went through that section of the wall where the hole is. Maybe those where holes where something was mounted or anchord to it. I don't know. There's quite a few of these old mill dams around here. Always neat to explore them.

Worked at a deaplership for Volvo and Hitatchi equip. today. Lots of iron around, but unfortunately I did not have a camera. The Volvo backhoes are cool looking, I had never really seen them too much before, but I got a good look at some today.

So today I set all three brush piles on fire. I should have waited for the rain to wet the woods down before setting them on fire. I did manage to set the woods on fire a couple times from the ashes landing in dry pine straw ( a video will follow tomorrow lol)

so here are some pics

I took the takie and stole three round hay bails from the farmer to get the fires going, 2 gallons of diesel and a match is all you need!

If you were to get a 400 hp+ grinder, your company could make a killing, tell the customers it's more "green" to grind. KA-CHING KA-CHING.

No. Grinders are BAD. You'll lose a LOT of money by having one. I mean it'd cost you loads to have someone pay to drop their waste wood off and then you grind and color it and someone pays you for it.

You'll lose your azz that way.

Yes and no, most of the other equipment is paid for, two months remaining on the volvo and its paid for. So even tho we are paying not to use it, its not really hurting. Still should not have rust on the blade! Oh well were keeping it anyways, times are not that tough.

Eh, the blade and pads will get rust on them if they sit for less than a week. The good news is they get shiney in about 20 minutes of use.

Might want to throw a bucket or cup over the exhaust though to keep rain out if it sits for long, if you don't already.

Kind of a random question, but I figured you might be the man to ask-

What do you usually use for the pipe on the pond siphon? Hard or soft? Also, how do you usually start the siphon? I've seen it done where you cap the end, install a T fitting at the apex, and fill with water. Then cap the T and cut off th end on the downhill side.....it works, but is there an easier way?

Looks like we might have a little dam repair coming up...

Thanks

When you dump all that water doesn't it make a huge flood and cause problems? It looks like that is just a forest, lowland type place. Seems that it would anger the people around there.

Dirtman2007

they deal with it, it usually just flows back into the creek channel and back down stream. it's only a 6" pipe, not that much water.

well it pulls it down over a period of a few days, so keep that in mind. yeah it's a lot of water. but over a period of 4 days it does not show up as bad LOL

Yes i've flooded people out before, that was because i just took the excavator and busted the dam... those ponds were being filled in anyways.

A key way is a ditch you dig parallel to where the dam is going. dig down 4-5' and get down to good solid ground. this will lock the dam in place and keep water from trying to flow under it.

Several times, took 200 truck loads out the first time. then we dig it out the catch basin every 4 months with the mini and pile the sand up. well its rained right much so its more than the mini can handel. Job security.

So bright and early this morning I go a set the brush pile on fire. All was good till the wind picked up after lunch, then it all went to hell in a hand basket. I got burnt 3 times by hot embers, even hot a hole burnt in my shirt.... then the fun stuff. I set a small spot of grass on fire, no problem I put that right out. then the finale... a hot ember set my 5 hay bails on fire, over 150' away. I saw flames... oh crap. Go running over, of course the hay bails just happens to be stacked in the center of over 400' of plastic pipe in rolls. so I drag that out of harms way. ok now the flames are getting big. so I run and get the mini ex to put this crap out. well that just made it worse as it just busted the bails part... not good... I've got one hell of a fire and its blowing toward this million dollar barn Sh*t!!!
So I run and get the takkie, wide ass open I haul ass over and just start pushing this crap over the edge trying to put it out. smoking like hell too. Finally I get all this flaming hay put out. holy cow, that's a new experience for me. Now I got to work tomorrow cause I burnt all my dam hay up... damit
I hate working 7 days a week. Funny how you can go from nothing to do to more than you can do in a couple days.

Oh if i had a video of the hay on fire.... I'd been set for life.

No he just told me not to burn when the wind is blowing 20mph...

I just swung the boom a little to the side and was able to just use the normal swing. still pretty tight tho. the yanmar would not fit in there.

it's a pond for that community.

there is no way to solve this problem but come back every 3 months and dig the sand pit out. There's so much sediment upstream it will continue to wash into the pond. There's no way to stop it, it just keeps on comming.

The takkie does it all, 2" at the time and track it in gives me a 95%+ compaction rating, it's been checked

I've never had one fail me and I've done well over a 100.

I'll explain, that box is called a flashborad riser. this box is made so that you can raise or lower the water 4' using the adjustable boards that are inside it. so right now the water is set within 9" from the top of the box, or 4' from the bottom of that black pipe, or 18" below the top of dam.

should be around 8' deep all together.

Thanks man! Yeah I'll rock the job site in flip flops if I'm just running the machines.

So I've been the ditch b*tch on this job for a while now, so I don't take many pictures LOL, I put in 3 catch basins, with a 12" drain pipe to carry the water out. I hate rock, I've had to use the volvo a few times to bust through the rock as the yanmar just would not do it. Once I get all my drain lines installed I've got 1800 feet of 3" plastic irrigation line to install with sprinkler heads. should keep me busy for a while!

Went and played on the daewoo today and knocked down some trees. I've done tons of work in the past for this fellow, clearing, several ponds ect. A very good customer of ours. He has a beautiful place too.

I'm clearing off fencelines.

with the Highway and powerlines right above me it was a little tricky to fall these trees. but managed to get er done without any problems.

Chris how do you decide who gets the Volvo or the Daewoo in the morning? Do you and the boss man race to the shop in the morning to grab the keys? Just noticing that sometimes you are in the Volvo and other times in the Daewoo, and you say that you like the Volvo better.

I'd say it depends on what is sitting when a new job comes up. Like this last one, they had the Volvo on the farm job and the Daewoo was sitting so they would obviously take the daewoo to this last job. And I'd assume they have there own set of keys..
