does any one run one of the 2008 trucks with a v-10?? what are your thoughts and mpg's so far?

im looking into a f-350 with a gas engine and wanted a v-8 but found a nice truck with a v-10 and a brand new boss v-plow the one with the flared wings what ever its called.

i just dont know if i want to drop the $ for a unproven 6.4. give me a 2008 with a 7.3!!

I had a v-10 once, didn't matter what I did it got 10mpg was talking to a dealer a couple of days ago and was told they haven't changed, so probably will get another diesel, have been looking at a 2008 f-350 with a steel flatbed.

They got stronger and the trans option is the proven torqshift auto. There has never been a better gas engine/trans package in a pickup other than maybe the gm 8.1/allison combo.

I have heard that the newer V10's get much better economy than the older ones. And great power. I think it would be a solid choice with all the power you get. but ya know expect about 10 city and 14 hwy.

god i wish that truck had a 5.4 i would go get her!! i just dont think a v-10 is needed. a 5.4 will pull the same load that truck will.

not so much... Theres like an 80 Hp differemce, and 5 million lb ft of torque more...v10 will tow much better.

I guess the 650 still hasnt happened?

knock on wood my 6.4 has been good so far. mileage is around 15ish most driving and 18-19 babying it. im scared of ford gas engines. to me they have always been 100K mile throw away engines. poor gas mileage, you can expect bad exhaust manifolds, the list goes on. thats probably the only reason i went diesel.

The v 10 is an awsome engine. I have one in a 08 F 450 extra cab with 12' solid side mulch body. The more I drive the truck the more I like it.Its the first gas motor in a work truck I have had in over 12 yrs. I cant imagine driving a 350 with the 5.4. I have a 5.4 in an 04 Expedition and when you turn on the AC it feels like it has no power, and its been like that from day one. You might loose a mpg with the v 10 but it would be well worth it when you need that power. There are lots of v 10 s out there with well over 250k and no to minimal problems. Its seems that diesel has been 60 - 90 cents more per gallon for the last 4 yrs now and the new diesels are having some teething problems with the DPFs.So save the extra 6k and if you can find a v 10 truck the way you want it set up , grab it theres not alot of them around.

my 5.4 has 179 on it . replaced 3 ignition coils so far and for the motor, thats it. My 97 f250 that I sold last January had 186 on it.

I have a 05 F-350 with the V-10 and I had a 04 F-250 with the 5.4
Big difference in pulling power. Once I would get rolling with a heavy load on the 5.4 it was fine, but getting it rolling was sometimes tough. With the V-10 I've never had a problem with towing anything I needed to tow. The one big difference though was the rearend, the 04 5.4 had the 3.73 and my 05 has the 4.1. I can notice a difference in that and when you let off the gas on the 05 it slows down right away as opposed to the truck with the 3.73. It seemed to coast more when you let off the gas. My V-10 gets 11-12 regardless if it's empty or pulling 10,000 pounds ,the 04 5.4 would get 16-17 empty and fall off to 9-10 pulling plus did not pull as good. So if I had to do it again I would choose the V-10 again. For a work truck it's easy to get carried away hauling or towing I would rather have more power than I need.

our buddy has an 05 or 06 350 single rear wheel crew cab short box lariat fx4 with the 9' 2" Boss ProV XT (same plow your talking about, tapered wings) and he has my brother plow for him with that truck on occasion, it has the V10 in it and my bro said he would average about 6.-7mpg plowing with it. thats not bad considering our 6.0L in the pickup and 5.7 in our dump get about that much.

the motor has plenty of power and will put you back in the seat if you mash the throttle even with that plow on there.

hmmm you guys make the v-10 sound pretty good.

take a look at this truck, i think if i got it for about 24k it would be a deal. the plow is the real reason its a good deal. thats about a 5k plow.

$6,260 installed at my dealer. looking at getting the same one installed on the new 350 we are getting.

thats a really nice looking truck though, xlt with leather. im just not a fan of their supercabs, more for storing stuff than riding back there.

im never the one riding back there so i dont realy care, i like the looks of the supercab short box. i dont like the looks of four door trucks but i like the function. in the end it can always fit three more people back there if i need to. and when we get to the jobsite they are rearin and ready to get out and get to work.

I've heard that the v-10 is a pretty good engine and some guys say towing it actually gets better mpg then the 5.4, the early ones had problems with spark plug coming out but they fixed that.

i get the same answer every time out of this guy. if its a ford he says to jump on it like a hottie on prom night.

if it was a 5.4 i would, im still not to sure on the v-10. its also my daily driver so the mpgs do matter a little. i will run some numbers and see what kind of $$ i will spent over a 5.4 and what i will save over a 6.4. i wish gas was going to stay at 1.60 a gallon!!!

The v10 is fantastic, you wont be dissapointed. Go drive the dang truck. Most places will let you use it over night. Just see what ya feel.
