Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I don't need something that big right now but theres a couple for sale here pretty cheap. I'm guessing I would need a CDL because they are air brakes.
Thanks Dave...

The 7.3's in those did quite well.

I've run one for about 1500 miles in the past. Empty..they're fine, loaded around town isn't too bad.
It does struggle loaded up hills though.

if you do get a truck like this dont get the ones with the hydraulic brakes they are a PAIN IT THE A%@ to fix we have 2 of them and nothin but headaches from the brakes. so air brakes!

yeah, the 7.3 is just fine for that truck, esp under CDL. It is a good towing motor too, better than the 6.0 because the valves are bigger and the block is heavier built, also has better bolts and more of them for the top end, so it can take the high EGT's better therefore last longer, but they are slow, sooo you wont win any races, plus, school buses for example most all have 7.3's they are fine and are large trucks, as far as air brakes go, they will cost you more with licensing and fee's plus now you have to deal with DOT and having your brakes in adjustment and that your compressor is working properly and you don't have any air leaks

CDL is dependent on the GVWR of the truck not whether or not it has air brakes. 26K and under you dont need a CDL 26001 and up you do

The trucks with 7.3 power are okay if the truck doesn't have a gvw higher than your CDL regulations. If it has a 30-33,000lb gvw the truck is going to be gutless.
In a schoolbus application they are fine but for a truck the engine is working too hard. The 5.9 Cummins is no better you want the 3126 Cat.
As for juice brakes they are horrible unless the truck is 4 wheel disk brakes if they are hydraulic drums you will have problems.
Air brakes are better and cheaper to fix.

hey the f-650 should come with a cat or cummings i have seen it in gas but never with the 7.3. also the f6-50 is de rated and should not req a cdl unless it has air breaks. gross wh is 28999 and that is 1 lb under cdl they are great trucks and can do a lot a 2002 with 50k or so should only run you about 25k if it did have a 7.3 i would stay away from it under power ( big time )

I haven't seen many gas powered F-650s the old F-600 F-700s had the 429.
Not many people in this area bought the "F" series medium duty when they went to the new body style and continued the "50" desigination ie F650.
International used the 444 quite abit in the lighter medium duty trucks like low pros where the 466 is a little too heavy for the front axle.
Would I buy a F-650 No
I would buy a International over the Ford.

Ford quit with the gas engine in the early 90s. common engines were the 370 and 429.
