How many miles can i expect to get out of this motor? There is a 1500 4x4 for sale in my area with this motor and 98k on it. The price is in my range and it's in good shape.

I had a 99 with 231000 miles when I sold the truck. Still ran great but everything was rusting out bad. It spent it's life towing and plowing.

I sold a 2001 Yukon with 195,000 miles back in the spring. Ran great and only used 1/2 quart of oil between changes. In my opinion it is a great motor.

We've got one with 153k and haven't had any real problems with it. I expect quite a bit more life out of it.

GM spent alot of money to make sure that the 4.8/5.3/6.0 would be a worthy successor to the old small block. They got it right. The 5.3 I had in a reg cab long bed would get 18-20 on the highway empty. For some reason, the pistons slap in 'em when started until there's a little heat in the engine. Doesn't mean anything, don't write off a good truck over it. Should go away in less than 5 minutes after start up.

The truck engines are based off the design of the LS motors in the corvettes. The LS motors are awesome engines, with 6 bolt mains and can make some serious horsepower with the right parts. The truck engines use cast iron blocks and the vette uses aluminum. There a displacement differences along with different intakes, cams, and heads etc, but the short block is pretty much the same design. Great engine and should give you a ton of miles as long as you maintain it.

There's no telling, it all depends how well it is and was taken care of.

The 5.3 is an extremely reliable engine. Id go for it. Have a mechanic check it out thoroughly. If it checks out good- go for it.
