I just got a job expanding an existing system. There are currently 19 zones. 6 zones per box and one in the backflow box. I shouldn't have to mess with them, but the two valves on the bottom of three boxes sure would be hard to service.

I dont have a problem with 6 in a box when its 3 and 3 , but that is unserviceable.

Looks like one of Boot's manis.

Love the angle on the backflow.

Are you retro-fitting DBY's?

You mean the non silicon wire nuts...probably. I thought I would use electrical tape, it's a whole lot cheaper.

The project is a new 70' retaining wall with multiple terraces for planting. They want fountain heads on the terraces.

I keep thinking California is always going to demand toxic-rated BP's, so a DCVA is kind of surprising.

90% of the homes I work on have DCVA backflow devices.

I know this has been discussed at great length. Around here back flow enforcement is pitiful anyway.

It is surprising; as long as UC has their guidelines, we'll follow them.

ML...do you have a link to Davis backflow standards?

Since ML might be out of WiFi reach... (http://www.usc.edu/dept/fccchr/)

Duct tape!

the way I was taught was to use regular wire nuts that he sealed with 3M scotch coat.

The duct tape comment was a joke - I use either DBY's or silicone-filled King nuts.

We use the silicone filled King nuts. Never have used a DBY on a residential.

I figured it was. but everyone rags on wire nuts but using scotch coat to seal them is the norm around here and I rarely see a failure.

King Blues [standing upright] are a must around here. A good majority of the VB's have water in them all winter. Nice.

Since we never think to provide drainage.

You know, I could start tying the VB's into the drainage system. A new revenue source!
