long story short i havent stopped thinking about the truck for two weeks now. i talked to the owner and he sounded like no one was even looking at it. i put in the paper work for the loan and got shot down by chase. i didnt have all the $$ to buy it so i called him up with a plan to put down a good down payment and then pay it off in 12 months. i just didnt think he would go for it so i was affraid to even ask.
now for the depressing part- truck was just sold and to make it worse he financed it out for the buyer and took less then what i was going to offer.
sold for 20,000 i was going to offer 23,000. that was the deal of a life time on such a unique truck. i have been looking for just that truck for years!! and that price was out of this world.
im pi$$ed, mad, sad and just feel like i failed myself and my biz. that truck could have been the key peice to the future allowing me to run multiple crews with one truck.
all the truck advise you guys had given me helped me become certain this was the truck, and i snoozed.

So what was wrong with the truck ?
What I mean why was the guy selling the truck ?
It looks like a conventional hoist rolloff there was no pictures of the hoist makes you wonder is the rails bent.
Not a bad deal but the truck would have very little payload a F-650 really isn't a heavy truck. The truck would only have a legal payload of 4 tons at the most licensed for 26,000lbs.
I know what it feels like to miss out on a deal, eventually something else pops up.

nothing at all was wrong with the truck other then the radio didnt work. he sold his costruction clean-up biz but the new buyer only wanted the accounts and name. i never understood how to figure the payload based on gvw. do i just take the weight of the unloaded truck and subtract that from the gvw to leave the payload?
i really want a truck that can haul my 13,000lbs ct332 and grapple on its back.

Rolloff trucks are heavy because you have the weight of the hoist and the weight of the box. So to figure out your legal payload you take the truck to a scale with a box that you will commonly use and get your tare weight (empty weight). You subtract the tare weight from your " licensed " gvw and it will give you your legal payload.
With a rolloff truck if you go and scale with no box just the bare rails you will get a false tare weight.
A single axle rolloff you want the gvw at the highest you can get. A F-650 may only have a 10,000lb front axle and 19,000lb rear which only gives you a 29,000lb gvw. Rear axle maybe only 17,500 and 9000lb front which gives you a 26,500lb gvw. A single axle rolloff should have 12,000lb front axle and 23,000lb rear axle to give you a gvw of 35,000lbs. A single axle is only allowed to gross 21,000lbs on the rear axle and the front axle is what ever the tires can carry. You could have 425/65R22.5 super single steer tires which would have you a 18,000lb gvw tire wise. The front axle and steering box can't handle 18,000lbs
You can run 315/80R22.5 tires they are rated for 10,000lbs each but they don't have enough tire width for the DOT. You need so many pounds per inch of tire width.
I would hate to see that a single axle would do if your pulling a heavy box up the rails. The front end of the truck would be 6 feet in the air. Even a tandem axle rolloff you can get the truck to do a wheelie. Once you lift the rail tails off the ground the truck is taking all the weight.
You will eventually find a good truck. Don't let the CDL law get in your way get a truck with a proper gvw or you will have a useless truck because of no "legal" payload.
Watch this tandem axle rolloff. I drove a older Ford than this one but the same hoist.

Another truck will come, you need to have your truck loan amount$$$ approved way before you find a used truck so you can pounce on it. This is much more important with used trucks, you cannot expect a private seller to wait for you. Your mistake is very common, and it's only a mistake if you did not learn from it.

Maybe the lesson is... have your cash ready to go. I would be willing to bet if you had offered him cash... he probably would have dipped below 20k. 'Tis gettting to be the season for good deals anyway. It is only going to get better from here on out.

i had the same issue this spring. was going to get a great deal on a really nice truck (was a little bigger than I wanted but the price was right). turns out the guy kept it afterall. so i went into spring one truck down and wound up finding EXACTLY what I really wanted in the first place. Come summer once the gas prices went up, i was so happy that i didnt get the larger truck. Good things come to those who wait. Ya gotta think that way or you'll beat yourself up over it

Picasso I fought the idea of a Tandem axle tooth and nail but the only way I would buy a single axle is just for a tow vehicle.
I have researched high and low and very few Singles(under cdl) will carry over 6 tons.
Most will only carry 5 tons or less.
So if you have to get a CDL then get a tandem.
If just want to haul the skid get a flat bed dump.
They are much lighter than a rolloff truck and will get you under cdl.
They are a dime a dozen.

yeah you may be right, im buying a 19,000 pound excavator very soon (knock on wood) and that may have been a little much behind a underpower f-650. the whole point of the roll off was to loose the trailer and be able to haul the 332 on the back and it wouldnt have done that legal.

You need to start banking locally. I know Dort Federal and Financial Plus both started handling small business accounts and obviously they have to look at your credit but its a little more personnel and bothare trying real hard to move into small business accounts.
If you bought it i would have said"nice truck" but since you didnt.........WOW that things ugly
The 650 is just like our 4500's you cannot haul sh!t in them

no way!!!! that truck is only good for hauling a little machine on its back, the point of me buying a roll off is to be able to run more then one job. drop mulch here, drop topsoil there, take a machine somewhere you get the idea. i might just have to step up and buy a tandem axle so i could "grow" into it. then i can haul the 332 on its back and pull a excavator on a 20 ton tag trailer. its more truck then i need right now but i can always have the option to haul more.

That crew cab F-800 is a rare truck don't see too many of them around.
Too bad its 5.9 Cummins powered talk about gutless and it only has a light rear axle.
