So I am finally going to look @ the 550H case dozer and I have a question.
How do I know the guy actually owns it and how do I know there are no liens against it?
I am in Ontario Canada..
Thanks:canadaflag:

Is this a private sale or is it at a dealer ?

Man, you've really been pondering this, huh?

I don't know how if there is a way to check on a lien on used equipment from an individual. You could run the serial number by the dealer and see what repairs have been done by a dealer and maybe who owned it first. That's probably about it.

What you can do is get in writing from the person who owns it stating that the machine has no liens against it. Also be sure to include the serial number with the paperwork. That's what I have done in the past, along with the usual signed documents.

Post some pics after you check it out.

What dozerman said......both parts. I have been through this in a not so pretty fashion where I bought a unit, with paper work signed and the loan company came lookiing to repo my machine 2 yrs later because the guy I bought it from never paid the piece off. Be careful and follow both of dozermans stated steps.......the dealer part as well as signed paperwork.

Does the owner look or seem that shady that their might be a lien against the machine ?

If in doubt pass on the machine.

If it checks out (you might want to go back to the earlier thread to refresh your memory about what to look for), then yes. Even if it need some U/C work, it's still a good price.
