I put my 2008 Duramax up on some scales to try and figure out what size plow I could go with and how the weight would be on the front end. Here is what I found

2008 Duramax 4x4 Ext. Cab. With 160 lb Driver. Tool Box with tools- 100 lbs. Back Rack. No Plow. No Plow Mounts. No Weight in bed.

Front Left Tire- 2050 lbs
Front Right Tire-2050 lbs
Back Left Tire- 1395 lbs
Back Right Tire- 1320 lbs
Total- 6820 lbs

2001 6.0L Gas 2500HD 4x4 Ext. Cab. With 160 lb Driver. Tool Box with tools- 100 lbs. Back Rack. Plow Mounts (Western Ulta Mount). No weight in bed

No Plow:
Front Left Tire- 1783 lbs
Front Right Tire-1708 lbs
Back Left Tire- 1370 lbs
Back Right Tire- 1425 lbs
Total- 6285

With 8' Western Pro Plow. (Plow weight 700 lbs) no ballast:
Front Left Tire- 2275 lbs
Front Right Tire-2200 lbs
Back Left Tire- 1225 lbs
Back Right Tire- 1275 lbs
Total- 6975 lbs

With plow and 535 lbs of ballast over rear axle:
Front Left Tire- 2235 lbs
Front Right Tire-2155 lbs
Back Left Tire- 1520 lbs
Back Right Tire- 1600 lbs
Total- 7515 lbs

With plow and 535 lbs of ballast ALL THE WAY BACK IN THE BED:
Front Left Tire- 2200 lbs
Front Right Tire-2150 lbs
Back Left Tire- 1550 lbs
Back Right Tire- 1615 lbs
Total- 7515 lbs

I don't have any weights of the 2008 Duramax with the plow on it. I bought a 8.5' western pro plow for my duramax. It handles it with out a problem. I have 850 lbs against the tail gate.

Hope this helps!

What's the GAWR on front of your new truck?

That's the main thing, you're way under GVWR for the truck, but you're probably pretty close on your front GAWR.

yep, the gvwr for the 2500hd is 9200lb, but the fgawr is really low. we have an 8ft meyer commercial plow and about 600lbs of ballast/traction aid in the back of our 2500hd.

for our other plow truck, i wanted a solid axle front, i was sick of all the variations in torsion bar that GM put out from the factory, so we got a f350 srw that is 11500 gvwr and 6000 fgawr and we have a boss 9' 2" v blade on there. but dont forget that its also a crew cab long bed diesel! they wouldnt even let us put a plow on an f250 with the 5600lb front axle.

we wanted a boss v xt (u know with the tapered wings) but since it is only about 60-80 lbs heavier than our v blade, it would void the warranty and the installer and owner could be held liable if anything were to happen.

and then theres our 98 chevy dump. we have a blizzard 810 power plow (8ft extends to 10ft) that weighs damn close to 1000lbs and about 3000 lbs in the bed for ballast, but mostly for traction since its a 2wd. we installed heavier duty springs, timbrens and hd shocks but she still sags when we pick up that beast

The front axle on the 2500HD duramax is 4860. It's the same on a 3500 too. So I am actually over the weight by a couple hundred now.
