do you really say that a 16 hp does everything maybe for you but if you do a lot of removal where time is money this will pay for its self in on year if not sooner no comparison people should not speak on what they dont know about and these are easier to back up then the 16 or 24 hp tow behinds

That unit would bring you $2,800 of work just by nature of having it and it would not take but weeks to pay for itself.
Curb side marketing written all over that machine, A month ago it would have been mine and not tarping 150 accounts not to mention the enormous potential it would provide a company.

Not sure why someone thinks a smaller machine is easier to back;) You will sell it but its late in the season.

But when ya have a big leaf box on a dump , you cant see that unit behind ya an it makes it a hell of a time manuvering, I do lots of leaf removal an have for 14 years , The only time ya see a difference in suction between a small unit an a large unit is if the leaves are really wet , who an the hell does leaf removal when its wet?? we used 2,, 8 hp billy goat truck loaders for years an we seen very minimal problems with them, we have 16 hp's now an they do have more power but the suction is about the same,, hope this helps George

Leaf season isn't all sunshine and 60 degree weather, I've had to pick up frozen, snow covered piles. When I use it I planned my routes carefully, so I never had to back it up, just unhook it and go dump the truck. I would wait until I had a quite a few properties cleaned up and to the street, then set aside a day for pickup only.

so you dont get more milk, juice, etc.. with a bigger straw faster than a skinny straw? they why do the towns not use small little vacs??

Good point, ponyboy. I found myself barely running at half throttle most of the time, especially when they're dry. You can pick up alot of leaves in a hurry.

what??????????? i would have an 8hp as part of a mower collection system not a leaf loader. Anything under 16 will clogg. I use a 16 and have used 100hp. The large municipal machines are way more capable that a 8 or 16. What planet?

I started with a 16hp billygoat 10 years ago and added another unit 2 years ago. This year i bought a 65 hp tow behind giant vac. piles the size of a full size truck take 3-4 minutes. The difference in time is about a third.
If the pile took 60 minutes to vac last year, this year is 15-20 minutes tops.
Yes it does take alittle longer to back down a driveway. However once the machine is started you can't clog it. One of these vacs have more suction at idle than an billy goat @ wide open. It packs the trailer tight enough that when we dump it comes out like a loaf of bread.

The key words to live by in this business

TIME IS MONEY

Yeah, I forgot about that, when you go to dump the truck, the compacted load slides out like a huge loaf of bread. I screwed a shiny plastic tarp down to the floor of the dump bed, and the "loaf" popped right out of the oven everytime!

for those that have a problem backing up a vac that you cant see...... i learned this from davey tree. buy a set of orange plastic snowplow markers and mount them the the side of the vac pointing straight out to the sides. now you can have a very good idea what the unit is doing behind you. most tree companies with smaller chippers do this.

Actually a skinny straw will suck up faster and has higher suction:dancing:
