Hey guys i'm thinking about purchasing a walker mower for the front lawns, precision work. Any feedback on this mower??? I run a 52" wright stander and a 57" exmark and I feel that they are good mowers but are to heavy and damaging to the lawns, what do you think???? Steve

without a doubt it will be the best choice you make for pickin up leaves and mowing during the season. It was for me

Their great on high end accounts, and do limited turf damage with the extra wide low profile tire option. If you got the funds? go for it, the Walker is another weapon to add to your arsenal. My regret waiting for some many years to purchase a Walker;because I got scared listening to all the negative's, 99.9% are just wrong.
What about the back yards? Walkers can cut those too.
The Walkers are great for their GHS, compact size, manicured cut, their turtle's, not going to win any race's mowing. I like that you can reduce your employee's with a Walker, their like another crew member, with none of the mouth, no calling in, and work almost for free

Turf damage can occur with any mower you use if you don't know how to use the machine. A Walker does take some practice. One tip I will give you is to get the DUAL tail wheel design if you are going to make lots of 3 point turns on turf. The single tail wheel has a tendancy to pivot, like planting one foot and spinning on it. It can damage some turf. The dual tail wheel can also pivot somewhat but the two wheels have less of a tendancy to plant and spin on turns. That being said you can be very careful and not damage turf with lots of practice.
Don't worry about the weight of the mower on a lawn. The distribution of weight is really good.
Once again I advise you to demo the mower. The dealer should be very helpful, if not contact the area distributor. You are gonna pay +10K for a machine to make you money. It is a great machine but try it out first. I will always have one.

I would agree with Ed to demo one. I have a Mt model and just love it. They do have there places, I have a 66" ztr for large areas, but when looks are important the Walker shines.

I also cut with a 36" Walker with the 26EFI engine, and although after tax it came to around $15000, it has been the best investment I have made. It has created a lot of new customers, and my cuts are among the most manicured I have yet to see.
Definately the way to go...

$15,000?? for the MT 26EFI, should be more around $12,500. Two things happened here the dealer made a extra profit on this sale, or your ordered some optional accessories.
Either way you still got WAYYYY to much power running that 36" GHS deck:laugh: I have the MT20 & 42" GHS, and have to look for grass to slow it down.

Well I live in Canada so that may explain the differences in price. Also, I cut a lot of thick grass here that when wet would not be able to cut with a lower powered engine. I'd either have to cut twice, or slow my speed down considerably.
My main motivation in getting the 26EFI was the fuel savings, which have been significant this past season, and for the ability to use a larger deck. I initially intended to purchase a 62" or 72" deck for my larger 2acre+ properties, but with 4 full days of cutting, I don't mind dropping a guy off and letting him cut the property for a bit of extra time with the 36". Most of my properties would not allow anything larger than a 36" deck, and those that could, are usually able to be cut in the same time as it takes my other guy to trim and blow the property. Therefore, I can use the 36" deck more often, and still have ample capacity to cut my larger properties.
If you want to see the size of these properties, check out my website at justgreen.ca and go to gallery. On the last page is a backyard that is an acre and a front lawn that is around a half acre. I also cut a 5 acre property in the country with the Walker and it takes my guys around 3 hours to cut. Not too shabby a profit either. I'm making close to 50$/hr sleeping in on a Saturday morning.

:hammerhead: my bad, should have read your profile. That explains the price:dizzy:, and I feel the same way about my 42" GHS I can use that size deck on way more accounts than a 48" GHS. I have the 62 SD deck, and the 20hp is a Slug running that deck in thick grass; however I now just bust out the AOS Diesel, and beat it up.
You can never have too much HP/Torque, I kick myself in the arse for not going with the 26EFI, but I might{start} be only using the Walkers for high end accounts that require bagging. I know the 26EFI is "on the table" for my next Walker MT power choice.

I switched from walker to exmark navigator and love it never any clogging problems even in wet bermuda i have 2 both 27 hp with 48 deck no regrets for changing just made mine and my employees life much easier no more laying in the wet grass or concrete cleaning out the deck and chute.

The only time I find myself unclogging the chute is when I'm taking off around 75% of the grass and its wet. If its dry, there is no grass, within reason (2.5 ft) that will clog up the walker with my 36" deck and 26EFI engine....
Thanks for the comment NOSPARKPLUGS.....I'm really leaning towards purchasing a 62" as opposed to purchasing a larger mower as so much of my money is in the company, and I'm likely selling it this coming August. Although it may allow me to make a good profit on it and then sell it to the buyer....
I bet the AOS is a beast....

justgreen did you get the larger screen in the box? I have an 2000 and back then they didn't have the wider mesh screen. I have heard that it does help if the grass is real thick and wet. My next machine will have it.
The 36 with the 26 would make a lawn look awesome. The smaller area creates a great vacuum that would pull the a-hole out of an ant.
If you are considering bigger decks the 62 is a good one but don't look past the 52SD. I have that deck and when you run the doubles without the mulch kit the Walker becomes a different machine. It chops grass and throws it wayyy out. It isn't as fast as a Lazer but that deck is a workhorse and the 26 will spin it with no problem. Just my experience but it is an excellent combination. Good luck. Get that snowblower on now and get to work. You Canadien dudes are sending lots of that white stuff down here early. I love it even though I don't do snow as part of the biz. Take care.

The mower actually does an amazing job. Check out my website at justgreen.ca it has some great pics in the gallery, but make sure you check them all, because the same houses are in clumps, and the last page has some great pics....I think the first few are more average....but then again the middle....just take a thorough look.
I'll take your word for it MOW ED/ I've looked around for ideas on what deck to purchase, and the 52" was my second choice. It also will allow me to fit it into tighter areas, and really how much time will that save me having an extra 10" if I cant get away without trimming twice as much. I really hate trimming.
I also don't do snowplowing so its beautiful to watch the snow fall. The main reason is I'm a student and have exams throughout the winter, so I can't make that committment. But my school is on strike for the last month and a bit, so I'm as relaxed as ever.....:cool2: Watched almost every episode of Seinfeld in the last couple weeks...
But now I miss riding my walker and taking pics of the lawns I do after...I just bought a Canon G9 a couple months ago and it takes amazing pics...
anyway, take care guys, we'll talk soon

I went to your website and that is some first class work on some beautiful properties. As I sit and look out the window at lots of white it was nice to see all that striped green. What a difference a few months make. Enjoy your break from school. Nice website my friend. Take care.

Hey MOW ED,
Thanks for the compliments. I have worked on that site, and there are still minor changes (apart from showing 4-6 pics of only 8 or so houses) but I'm really happy with it.
It means a lot to me that a fellow professional is making such positive claims about my work. I take my time on every property, and I leave each one with a sense of accomplishement if the edges are nicely trimmed, the lines striaght, and the pathways thoroughly blown. It's always a pleasure to see others comment on the work when that effort was put through :)
It was my 25th birthday last night so I have been thoroughly enjoying the school break. Have a great holiday season guys,

I have 4 walkers, all with 48" ghs and 9.5 bushel collectors. We do only high end resi's and commericals, all an acre or less. The best machines I've ever owned. You won't be dissapointed.

Walker Mowers are the best (all around) that I own and have used.
My only regret is I didn't get them sooner and that I don't have more work to put more men on them and make me more money.
Walker mowers rock.
