Definitely dont get a 6 foot bed. You will cuss yourself if you do.

You are comparing one diamond and two gold pieces, I would go with the diamond.
Diesel, plow and 8 foot bed.

Keep looking you can find something newer than the 2001 and 2000 model trucks and the 2004 is useless with a 6 foot box.
Trucks with plows already you should stay away from the truck has already seen some abuse.
If you want a diesel truck find something better.

I wouldn't buy any truck that had been used a lot for plowing, especially a diesel. A diesel that has been used for lots of plowing has spent a fair amount of it's life several hundred pounds overweight on the front axle, and front end components are likely to be hammered.
However, out of the three trucks I would want the Dodge because of the engine even though it's overweight on the front with the plow. The 2000 has the 5.7 IIRC which is a little weak for towing the 18 foot enclosed, and the 2004 has a short bed which is worthless IMHO.

Well the dodge plowed like 3 driveways....and yah I'm really leaning towards the Dodge, love my '07 cummins! The other truck I'm seriously considering is the '00 GMC because of its price and lower miles. Its only going to be a maintenance truck. I don't go all over the place either, 5 miles max is the farthest I plan on heading from "base" for maintenance this coming year.
Now its a waiting game as I need to get hired as a sub over winter and am waiting to hear back from two guys wether they need me or not. If its a yes I'm getting the Dodge no doubt.

Whenever I buy a used truck I always plan $2,000. more than the buying price for repairs. Take it to the dealer and have the work done. Or do it yourself but with the trucks I have come across any used truck is going to need front end work, all new fluids, and tires depending on the usage. Just don't spend your whole budget on the truck and not be able to get it ready for the work you need it to do. Best of luck

You should have said this is a second vehical.
As for a truck to be used as a plow truck the GMs are not that great with the IFS.
With the Dodge plan on doing front end work so ball joints and the unit bearings, front brakes.
Out of all the trucks only the Dodge is good for a plow because it has a mono beam front axle and has some ground clearance.

I always love it when looking at used trucks with plows, everyone always says they were only used on there driveway. If that where only true.

What is the gvw on the GMC ?
I would pull the rear hub cap off and see if the truck has the 14 bolt FF not the SF axle.

Dude if I cared about GVW I'd buy a diesel f550 or something. lol
This truck is for lawn MAINTENANCE only! It'll be pulling a 14'-18' trailer within a 5mi. radius from the yard loaded with 3 commercial mowers.

That's not a 2000. The new body style started in 99. 2 years ago I bought a 2001 6.0 that was higher miles but loaded and that was $7500. For a personal driver Id look at the 04, but since its work Id only consider the dodge. Sounds like a good price for a diesel, but I dont know too much about Dodges. Might need to keep looking. Just remember one thing. Right now you can get a loaded diesel 3/4 ton for under 30K so that should drive the used car market down some. That one in the pic is maybe worth 6K on a good day.

funny guy. Like I said I'm not slashing my bank account for a truck when I don't need it right now and not positive if I'll get a job as a sub this year.......some people are good business owners, guess you don't fall under that category.

even with the plow and lower miles? I'll have check the title on the truck....he was pretty sure its a '00. I think they were still producing both looks then, kinda like what they did in '07 with the "classic". I think if he'd be willing to take $7k its a good deal, around here people are asking 11k for trucks with over 100k and a plow.

The plow is the killer. Im not far from you, and will say you got to watch the used car market around here. Used plow isnt worth much. Yes the prices are up on replacements, but if you shop around you can find a leftover or rebuilt plow for cheap. Yes it is possible that it is a 2000 sierra classic, but then remember that it uses the old mechanicals and is not the same as the newer HD trucks. At the end of the day if you are happy thats all that matters. Most trucks will go over 200K if they are taken care of so I wouldnt worry too much about mileage. I might look for a better deal to get you around for a year or two till you get some credit.

That trucks been on craiglist awhile now and ebay also, try giving him less then 7k you can always go up. Tires are almost shot and check the ball joints and front end because if tires and joints need to be replaced thats $1500 right there. Not saying the truck is bad but be sometimes used trucks can become a money pit.

yah I want to get a new regular cab but thats not going to happen unless I fork over $25k.....I guess I'll just wait until the spring to buy something...I wish someone had like $50k to invest into a young business lol....I had a guy who was going to invest $60k but he's lost too much now he said with this shyt economy!!!
....sorry for my rant

Thats what Im saying the new car market is crazy right now. GM is giving the stock away right now. I got a quote for an almost fully loaded extended cab Dmax the other day for 28K. Thats for a 40+K truck. I can imagine you can get a reg cab work truck under 20K right now. Problem is they arent giving easy loans right now. But interest rates are good if you can get in.
The dodge may be your best choice of the 3, but Id bet there is something better for you out there. If you are mechanical you might want to look for a late 90s for 2-5K and save the rest for repairs.

That's not a 2000. The new body style started in 99.
The body style on the silverado changed. Thats not a silverado. Those body styles were still made for a few years after the silverado body style change.

If your buying a 3/4 ton Chevy you have to watch out they class the truck as a 3/4 ton and its only a beefed up 1/2 ton. The Chev/GMC trucks with the semi floating rear axle is junk. If you plan on plowing with the truck you want the heavier gvw because the front end will handle the plow.
Also you want the heavier brakes the 14 bolt full floating rear axle has the big brakes so pulling a trailer and stopping it is easier. It doesn't matter if the truck is used for lawn maintenance your going to put a heavy load on it.

im a ford man so i may be wrong, but didnt GM go with the new body style in 99'??? as for the truck, id go with teh 00 GM. id say the dodge, but diesel has been so much, its almost not worth it. $7000 seems a bit on the high side but it has low miles. seems like a nice truck and like you said your only going 5mi away. good luck 18year old, sounds like youve made a few good choices so far so trust yourself
