How many of you guys have full time jobs and do this on the side. I am a senior in high school and want to be a paid fire fighter (I'm volunteer now) I think the work scedual is ideal for guys like us 3 on 3 off or 2 days 2 nights etc.
How many of you are firefighters and how much time do you have to work and not be killing yourself with work

I pull a full time job . Sun-wed- 330p.m. Until 330-4 a.m. On thursday morning after sleeping a few hours i get up @ 7a.m. And go out in the country to pick up trailer and then drive into town to take kids to school. I pick up my worker and start the day. We get done by 4p.m. Only work two days like this a week. Thursday and friday. Hopefully get more accounts this year and go full time. With you good luck and stay busy and out of trouble.

There are a lot of guys that start out doing this part time, most will be quiet because others here will flame them.
Its a good way to make sure this type of work is for you with less risk.
just don't lowball every job or you won't be around long and do a great job .that makes you stand out from the big guys.
I have had guys flame me and say how would you like me to do your full time job part time??? I think thats funny because like yourself you do my full time job for free.

I work as a correction officer I have 17 accounts a do them all in one day so it really doesnt affect my full time job. It just helps with income:drinkup:
Focus on your firefighting, once you have that taken care of you can then jump into this hard and heavy, you will have the security of a well paying job, plus not have to take as much BS from homeowners..
My motto:
"Its a great feeling knowing you want to mow, rather than you have to mow"!!

Been doing this for 16 years, and a paramedic for 20. As you mentioned the schedule works out exceptionally well, sucks when the rain season hits and it seems to rain every other day or especially when you are off and have to work the nice ones. We do alot of snow removal here so that gets tough also so I hold all my sick vacation and comp time until I need it for that. Part time is a great way to start, I have people doing my job part time as well, but hey we all start somewhere.
As was mentioned, do it because you want to do it, do it fair and do it right, just as if you were paying for it and you won;t go wrong.

I am a Process Tech for a major chemical company and I work a rotating 12 shift, basically working 15 days a month...and I mow on my days off.
