this winter i am planning to have a certified walker mower mech rebuild my motor on the side and not thru the dealer he works for. what should i expect to pay for this. i will be taking out the motor and put it back in. its a 25hp kohler motor. i was planning to drop in a new motor but met this guy thru a friend and from what i know is the top mech at the dealer he works at.

I don't rebuild as often as I did years back, It's more cost efficient today to short-block if the other parts are still in good condition or replace the engine so to have a warranty.

To answer your question, It depends on how good he is and how long he takes to do it along with how much per hour he's going to charge.

Myself, I charge the same per hour as at work. If I'm going to work on my off time they will pay my price.

No one at our shop is allowed to do side work unless its a family member or close friend.
Also what kinda garrantee is this guy gonna give. He doesnt have the shop backing up his labor.
